Default Summer cut or winter bulk?

So what are we all doing at the moment? I am kind of back on a bulk as there hasn't been much of a summer so it seems pointless trying to trim up when you are covered up all the while anyhow. Actually I am aiming for recomp which is doing both but my main aim is to add some muscle. I went to Englands Strongest Man at the weekend and felt like a midget.

I recently done a 3 month transformation thing and if I am completely honest didn't do any cardio. I hate it! But just by changing my diet a bit and maintaining a high level of training I changed quite a bit.

Anyone else made some decent changes lately? Or is it just plodding on?

I probably train the same as you, trying to do both at the same time. Although over the past few months i have done a little bit of cardio, which kills me.....

A crap one to be brutally honest. I'm not one for weighing out food or abstaining from alcohol/junk food if I fancy it.

As long as your getting 1.5-2gm of protein per kg of bodyweight then you should be good to go for growing. If you get fat tone down the carbs, especially the starchy ones as found in Pasta, Bread and Potatoes.

To be brutally honest I see people that look like shit on BB forums going into the fine details of a diet. Its as simple as train HARD, rest and eat protein. Doesn't need to be anymore complex than that imho. All I done to cut was ditch some bread and fast food. Oh and tried to eat earlier in the evening as I wasn't eating until 8.30 most nights.

Most people fall short of training properly.

I dont wanna sound gay but you look well on the pics. Ive been doing weights for a few years now and i look fook all like you do. Im stronger than i was. I train about 3 to 4 times a week i do differnet body parts in them days. Ive changed my diet and have stook to it for the past year now. I eat a lot of pasta cause the wife only likes spag bol or lasagene lol. I hardly ever eat bread or crap food. I wish i lookes like you do. How long did it take you to change from how you look in the first pics to how you look in the aecond pics.

Thanks Glenn. The time between pics is three months. I half heartedly done a transformation comp (hence the papers) on another web site but was pleasantly surprised by the change as I didn't really give it my all. Felt a bit of a fraud when I came second.

Although I don't look good in the first pics the meat is all there, just needed the fat trimmed to show it off better. I was around 245lbs in the before pics and 234 in the after.

I have been training for years though, but I have trouble adding size as I am an ectomorph and would be 10 stone dripping wet if I didn't train.

I train 5 days a week with one bodypart per day. However what works for me might be different to you. Alot of people would say 5 days is too much and label it overtraining. Just find what works for you and stick with it. The most important thing is to be pushing yourself beyond the limits.

Gone from 16 stone to 14.10 with abs showing well now.

Should finish just over 14 stone ripped!

Cheers, Yeah it is going well!

Struggled to get back into doing my morning cardio but like you I went to a bodybuilding show my mate was competing in and that gave me the kick up the arse I needed. Have done at least 40mins every morning for the last 7 weeks!

Diet is super strict too with only one cheat meal saturday nights

Have got a few pics on my phone that show massive changes but dont really want to post them tbh

Once you've found that balance you should be alright mate. plus your not adverse to changing it about a bit.

I know some guys older that who are in very good shape. Thats the one thing with this sport, age doesn't restrict you too much.

I haven't touched a weight since Novemeber IIRC but still got it all set up in the worskshop and flat benched 70KG for one set of 8 the other week when I got curious as to how weak I am now Only weighing 72KGs right now as well so happy with body weight repping after 8 months off. Running the army 1.5 miles in around 8:20-8:30 as well. Now I'm off to get smashed around the boxing ring as a few months off have taken their toll there as well

You getting 3-4 shakes a day in you as well, mate? That'll help. Some people just don't seem to get big though unfortunately. But I'm not into the "it's what you look like you can lift, not what you can lift" school of thought. I'd rather be deceptively strong than huge and weak.

Fair enough, i was in the REME, although there is a few freaks that i know who are paras, and they are beasts....

Basic training is mint though, you hate it at the time, but love what you have achieved afterwards...

What we all doing now? Winter bulk time??

Persoanlly I have been chipping away and trying to get bigger. It is slowly working but I've had a bit of a setback this week with the trots. Not been able to eat for days. Not weighed myself yet but feel like I have lost it all. lol. Now hitting the protein hard and heading to the gym tonight to start to get back to where I was. Bit of a pain as I was really happy with my progress and size for once. I was starting to look like one of the big guys.

I'm on a winter cut believe it or not.

Was at sea for 4 months, champagne lifestyle, eating shitloads, drinking shitloads and not really training well at all. Partly due to facilities, partly due to tiredness but that's no excuse. Still managed 2/3 days a week but no real structure to it.

Gained about a stone of 'bad weight' so now im home i've lost the stone and gonna try for another off too.

Started at 115kg, now down to 109kg. Would like to be 100kg by xmas without losing any strength, so far so good.

Then Jan - March it will be a sort of lean-ish bulk. I gain weight faaaaarr to easily so will keep up some cardio but with a focus on adding strength/size.

I want to introduce a single shoulder and back session into my weekly cardio workout as I've lost alot of upper body strength. Legs are still plenty strong, though, so don't have to worry much there.

Is there anywhere that gives good guides to whats best to eat, if you know what i mean?

I got back into kickboxing at the start of this year (march)
Ive always weighed 12.5-13stone. I used to eat a LOT of fryups, 4-5 a week. Would eat toast for breakfast, and a BIG evening meal at 8pm ish, if ready meals i could do a cottage pie meant for 4 with ease lol.
But ive never been fat. Had a layer on my belly but not much at all really.

Since trainin again i now weigh around 13stone.
I go 3 times a week for 2-2.5hrs and theres loads of cardio involved, i come home with my clothes soaked, look like i jumped in a pond lol.
Changed my diet a lot too, now have a bowl of oats for brekkie, 11ses 2 chicken drum sticks/sausage roll/large scotch egg... Stuff like that, apple/bananna, for lunch a big salad with a chicken breast/2 tins tuna/seafood, on non trainin days or same meats with pasta on trainin days, and a heinz big soup for dinner before trainin (dont get time to cook a meal and any more food i feel sick at trainin). I have myprotein hurricane xs twice on trainin days, 11am and straight after.

Eat pretty healthy most weekends but still have takeaways/pizza/roast.....

Anything i should be doing differently? And what could i eat after trainin before bed? I train 7-9.30pm, get in at 10 then bed at 11.

My stomach is now a lot more trim, can see a 6pack easy if i tense, not so visable the rest of the time.
I want to get it more on show but id also like a bit more size but not weight as i wanna stay in the same weight class for fighting (75-85kg, im 80-82 currently)

Im also a builder so do lots of real world weights and am a lot stronger than i look lol, but not much use in the gym as ive never been a fan of them.
I try to go gym on my off days but need to rest some time lol.

Oh im about 6'2" and a 34-36waist...

Any advice guys?
