Default Engine swap Mk2 based kit car.

Hello. We have a very much past it's best CVH that is in a Fiesta Mk2 based kit car. Rather than rebuilding the CVH I am just wondering if there is a more modern option that is a good physical fit. I have see MK2s with Zetecs, Duratecs and even Cosworth YBs in, but don't know how easy or hard they are to fit. The car uses standard MK2 Fiesta engine mounts, gearbox mount, clutch cable and ger linkage. It will be using independent throttle bodies and stand alone engine management, so not worried about the electrical side but wondering what engine and gearbox combinations would physically fit the MK2 fiesta base without to much much fabrication work? Thanks.

Short answer is no, they are not a straight fit. the upper engine mount needs a different one welding in. This can be obtained from SB Parts though

Kit car? A Quantum?

YB is a RWD engine and longitudinal mounted. It has been put into FWD MK2 Fiestas and it has been converted to N/A but... no. Plus these engines become more and more expensive.

Duratec-HE needs some fabrication (upper engine mount) and it only will fit cable operated gearboxes with hydraulic clutch (Mazda gearbox bellhousing bolt pattern).

When used as a daily driver rebuilding your CVH still is an option, but originality won't be that much important as it's a kit car. Both Zetecs (early silver tops and later black tops including ST170) are mostly a direct fit, you just have to do some little modifications to your upper engine mount. There's a lot of MK2 fiestas with such a conversion with standard EFI, carbs, bodies or turbo.
