Default Problems with FORD - UPDATE

First of all, my apologies for this very long post.
Due to alot of work to be done I've been absent here for a few weeks but I'm back to stay (I hope).

I've planned everything to come to National Day this year but recently I've run into a shitload of problems with my 2.5year old Mondeo TDCi.

Saturday 1week ago, the engine light came on and I couldn't get any power no more. Called Ford Assistance, they came down, no problem found. Next day driving again, engine light came on, engine stalled, etc... Remember that this is a 2.5year old car which I bought new and only has just topped up 60k miles. Called Ford Assistance again, decided NOT to tow as the car was still driveable (AS IF). In the end, they did tow it to my garage which called me the next day to tell me I had a bill to expect of about £3.5k

What had happened was that the common rail injection diesel pump had eaten itself shattering pieces of metal all over the diesel injection circuit. Now EVERYTHING concerning diesel has to be renewed, ie fuel tank, fuel lines, diesel pump, the complete common rail system, injectors, etc.....
According to my garage, this was all my fault because I had filled her up with bad diesel with water in it which is bollox. I always fill her up at work because we have our own tank and multiple cars fill up there and they do not have issues.

Now I've searched the internet and I found several website in Germany and Holland where people state that Ford knows that them common rail pumps are bad on Mondeo's from medio 2001 upto medio 2002 and of course my car is one of them.

Several people (even 1 within Ford) have told me that Ford know of this and that they normally pay for the repair bill although in my case, they only want to grant me a reduction of 30% on material costs which still leaves me with a £2.2k repair bill and I'm NOT prepaired to pay for something that Ford knows is going wrong.

Now, what are my options here?

Biggest problem is of course that I need my car back asap as I now only have the Esc Cos to drive and that is also having some troubles with the starter motor.

IF I have to pay for it, then I'm unfortenatly NOT coming to National Day as this is really growing over my head.

Surely if they knew it was a manufacturing fault, they should pay?

Them agreeing to pay only 30% is a joke, its not your fault, should be under warantee.

Kick up a massive fuss i think.

2.2k is a lot of cash!

Good luck

Geert

Firstly call fords customer care line etc and RECORD all the calls . Point out the issues and ask them what they are going to do etc

Then call your countrys trading stds etc and motoring press

Then tell them due to a trip to the uk you are going to hire a car and charge it back to them also

Then do what my brother in law did and park the broken down vehicle across the main entrance of the dealer etc where you brought it from until they sort it out

My brother in law parked his car right in front of the dealers doors on there own forecourt police werent bothered as no motoring offence had occured

Then my Bro in law told every potentail customer in the place what had happened to his motor etc and kept doing so until the dealer sorted it free of charge which they did . He only had to park there for about 2 hours

Good luck

also the fact that they are offering 30% is almost an admission of the issues

Agreed (sort of) Ford would call this 'betterment' as the car will be in better condition than it was (prior to the mis-hap) due to it having 60K on the clock, but with all new components.

Try to find as many other examples of the same fault, and kick up a fuss.

Unfortenatly, my dealer (the boss itself) is the greatest guy there is and it's entirely NOT his fault at all. He's the one that gets my Cossie MOT'd every year and that surely isn't a nice job to do over here in Belgium.

But how can I record a phone conversation where you can here both sides? I only have my Nokia 6310 to call with.

I also find it an admission of their own faults because I would not pay if I knew that something was good. Bad thing is that the car is out of warranty for about 6months now.

right m8 , heres what to do ,

i would put a bet on that the system on your car is made by 'delphi' who are a masive company that have bought out all the smaller diesel part manufacturers , what happens is the case hardening breaks down on the high pressure diesel pump , te pump is usually a twin rotory vane pump ( increases presuure at the rail to approx 25000psi !! - so dont mess with it ) . it the forces all the very small slitheres of case hardened steel ( or not case hardened ) through the whole system basically fooking everything. ford do not pay for the warranty of the faults , its delphi who cough up the money , ive experianced this a few times with other manufacturers who ive worked for , some times the cars get taken straight to a recoomended approved dephi main agent , at the best of times for are a shite company to deal with , so as above speak to their customer care , then speak to delphi direct about it and they should resolve this matter for you , its got fook all to do with the diesel quality m8

if you have any problems finding a delphi agent ( used to be bosch/zexel/lucas etc etc ) let me know and ill try and find a world wide directory m8 !!

The name Delphi does indeed ring a bell and I think (unsure at the moment) that the specific pump is indeed a Delphi one.

Markk, I have no idea on a Delphi factory over here in Belgium m8. Would love to get some phone numbers or an address.

Tillio, IF you could do that m8, then I would be highly greathfull to you m8.

do you always get the car serviced by Ford? i'm asking this because a couple of years ago i had a wee mk4 fiesta zetec. It was always serviced by Ford. But about 1 month after such a service it started making ticking sounds that came from the engine, so i checked the oil and found it to be really low, wasn't even registering on the dipstick! now bearing in mine this was one month after a service and the car only had 20k on it, i took it back to ford. Without any bother at all they agreed to replace the small ends which were knackered an only asked me to pay something like £100. They called it a 'Good Will Warranty' as the car was always serviced by them. hope this is of some help to you

Just heard from a friend that the system indeed is a Delphi one.

The car has ALWAYS been serviced by the same Ford garage where I bought it. Last service was about 4k miles ago.

My garage has called me about 2hours ago that they received a notice from Ford that they are going to give me a discount of 60% on material costs but that STILL leaves me with a £1.4k bill.

No to pleased at the moment and I'll be ringing Ford YET again tomorrow morning.

Ford do indeed know of the concern with the pumps on the tdci's and not just limited to the Mondeo sadly,if you were in Britain you wouldnt be paying a penny.Keep pushing them is my best advice.

If you can get me a few documents to back that statement up, then I would stand much more solid in my shoes m8.
I've allready got some from Germany and Holland so another one from the UK would help ALOT.

The way i see it is with ford offering that, they are admitting liability for the fault on the car and the repair costs to a certain point. Get that in writing and then get a solictor to see where you stand in reguards to ford already offering to fix it and why they arent fixing it for free if they have admitted liability for the fault and 60% of repair cost.

Gus --> it's not that easy in Belgium. Insurance premium would go skyhigh.

I don't intend on buying the car. I just want to trash it around m8 after all what they've done to me.

No really, I just want to testdrive it to see what the fuss is all about.
