Seems a more than reasonable weight to me mate, provided form is good etc.

I can do 40's and keep looking at the 45's, but not quite there yet.

Everything's relative and it depends what you goals are I suppose.

Providing you are progressing then it doesn't really matter what the weight is.

I've never done flat so I'd never know. No-one in my gym does flat for some reason, and we always do incline.

Always preferred using a bar personally. Get better results as you can concentrate on just pushing for me.

We do decline and incline. But, most of the people in my gym don't do flat and a lot of them do the competitions, so they must be doing something right as there are pictures on the walls of them full of medals.

I thought doing Decline damages your shoulders, and as such should be done using cable machines? :S

Decline is a lower chest exercise mate. Incline works your shoulders more.

Benni Flat bench is one of the most important exercises. You have to do it.

Yea that i understand fully, just that i was told when doing decline the weight/load is for a high percentage pushing ur shoulders in a position that is damaging to the muscles?

Ie. forcing them out of joint or something my PT was ranting about

unfortunately no pics of either as one of them has sadly passed away in a car accident and the other has broke his leg on his motor bike one of them was a monster about 5 5 and 20 + stone the other about 5 6 and at the time about 17 stone but when dieting down gets to about 14 stone so hardly a monster they both have short limbs which help a lot with lifting heavy weights.

I've switched to incline dumbell chest now for a bit for something different as I wanted to vary my exercises - where I've just worked my way back upto 45kgs per side as of last night - cant quite get them up on my own yet although I can get 40s up.

When I was doing flat I'd just started doing 50kg's each arm - could manage about 3 or 4 - can do 45kgs no problems flat & also I can get them up on my own too!!!

Correct. Strength and size dont go hand in hand. I barely lift more now than i did three years ago, and I have an extra three stone on me now.

I can push 50kg dumbells for 8, but very rarely do as our gym has one set of dumbells (the 50s) with bloody strange handles. They are huge. And i only have wee fingers lol.

If you squeeze your shoulder blades together while you lower the weights, you'll press more weight on your chest and prevent your shoulders from injury.

Sound like our 50kgs mate - fooooking hate the handles on them - they are quite large in the middle and taper off slightly towards the ends - the weights themselves are covered in a load of rubber too!!! I'm sure if the handles where skinnier I'd do better at them - too busy concentrating on losing grip of them & dropping the fookers than lifting them! lol

i thought flat bench is best for power lifters or people who do weights and want the bragging rights " how much can you bench" all the proper body builders i know dont do flat bench, the chest muscle is quite weak and is easily injured doing the flat bench properly is mostly legs and back then the actual chest muscle, the chest is in two parts the decline and press works both lower and upper chest best...

When I started people said you have to do flat bench to get a nice chest. I've never done it once and my chest is growing nicely.

decline press is a much shorter movement then flat or incline people tend to bounce the bar of there belly lol and ive always found dips to be better for lower pec development

not always the case mate

weight lifting is different from body building

i can flat 80kg in each hand but only for 3-5 reps

but pointless exercise for bodybuilding

i would go 50-60 kg for mass gaining to get the full reps with good form

but everyone is different and different things work in different ways for people

plus ronnys gear and food intake wont be the same as nor-would his rest and training
