Are people using a smith machine with 2 plates a side here? Or a proper olly bar with 2 plates on a side?
Seems to be alot of people pressing 100kg or more which is surprising tbh.

I use a free weight bar, the same width as the big olympic bar (6ft is it?) but its small size thickness if you see what I mean. I don't use the Olympic weight, just standard plates and I never count the weight of the bar itself.
I find the wider the bar the better/easier it is to press and I also like using the loympic bench down our gym as it has a wide bit to lay on. Some of the other bences are thin and dig right in to my shoulder blades.

One of the main controversies between proponents and detractors of the Smith machine is whether or not it is inferior to free weights. While there seem to be benefits of free weights over Smith machines, they may be overstated. Researchers at Drake University, Iowa tested the premise[citation needed] and found that lifters were able to lift greater amounts on free weights than they were on a Smith machine. As reported in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research[citation needed], bench press strength was about 16% higher for the free-weight bench press as compared to the Smith machine bench press. However, squat strength was about 4% greater for the Smith machine as compared to the free-weight squat.
For those who concerned

i'm out of shape a bit, been working away and just getting back into it and tbh i'm struggling lifting 120kg x 8-10 reps. i'm 85 kg in weight and reading the replies on here , you lads are doing really well, are most of you on steds or something as thats a lot of weight to bench a good few times.
there are a few lads that lift a good bit of weight in our gym but they are BIG lads, a lot more body weight than me lol.
well done if its just down to pure strength.

I have never been comfortable benching with a smith machine, a couple of lads I know used to prefer it but its something personally I cannot get away with. Its just not a natural motion. Free weight allows the slight movement you need for a good press. Bench and olympic bar every time for me. I think Id struggle with 2 plates a side for 8 reps nowadays.

The reason it surprises me is that in the gym i use there are very few people who can press 100kg for reps, literally only 4/5 that i know of. On the smith though, i see people with 2 plates a side a bit more often but in reality - depending on smith machine - its only maybe 90-95kg give or take a bit.

I remember when I first started out @ 16 odd the chap that used to own the gym I went to always said 100Kgs was the benchmark (excuse the pun) and that he was going to have a plaque on the wall with peoples names on that could press 100Kgs convincingly for atleast one rep. At the time I thought that I would never get there and that only one or two people would get their names on it. If doing that now I think it needs to be set at 150 or 200Kgs in my gym. My old training partner used to do over 200Kgs for 3-4 reps. Mind you he is 20+ stone of animal.
i was thinking that too.

I made the mistake of in my first year of training using the Smiths machine to bench press & I really wished I hadnt now as I think its stopped me from doing much better a couple years on using the olympic bar.
I weigh 78kgs (12.5stone ish) Currently at 85kgs for 8 reps - and slowly moving upwards - would love to crack 100kg next year.

2 years back i was doing 2 reps of 170kg (thats 3x 20kg plates and a 15kg either side) on a flat bench. at the time i was 14 1/2 stone, i could never get the 180kg (4 plates)
never trained for 2 years and went back and built back upto 1 rep of 140kg after 8 weeks.
i was always the smallest looking out of use who trained but the strongest for some reason.
my mates were 16 1/2 and no where near me.

you cant judge much on this topic because you need to no if someones natural or not 100kg natural is good but if on gear 100kg is very poor. and by natural i mean never taken gear because even if you have been off it a while you will still have strength benefits a natural person wont have
me personally 1 or 2 reps on 120kg including the bar and cant seem to get past that and natural

How you finding the tren e m8? How long you been on it for? Im kinda surprised your on this already as previous posts from you suggest your pretty new to steds BUT even though tren is meant to be the beast of steds i honestly think its overated sides wise etc and is no worse than running higher test deca cycles although never used only going by what friends say
Im eager to try it just dont want bad sides i.e aggression as im a crabbit cunt best of times

Sned, the only problem is night sweats. I have been on Tren for nearly 6 weeks, I came off Sust (750mg/wk) which had been 12 weeks and instead of PCT I crused on 125 mg/wk of sust, then back to Sust 750mg, tren e 400mg for a 12 weeker. I was going to use tren ace but the tren e was kicking in pretty soon, and I didn't frontload it as was worried about the sides.
I bloated on test, however not this time with the tren. However I have been eating very clean this time around.
I know it's frowned on by alot of people, but it's my body and I'm the happiest I've ever been with it.

Benni I am open about what I do, but as it's a public (car) forum I won't be posting pictures. For all I know, friends, family or work mates could see and I'd rather keep what I get up to behind closed doors my buisness!
I'll get a shot soon and pm you a before and after pick as long as it's not posted so you can see the difference.

I probably could, But I like to do a decent amount, rather than just 1 rep. For me to do 140kg, I want to be able to take it down and lift it back up more than once. I don't see the point in lifting it once and saying you've done '140kg', In my eyes, thats not properly lifting it, Each to their own though.
I've not been to the gym for a while now though, broken hand from a year or so ago giving me jip
Hoping to get it operated on before xmas so I can have a fresh start.
