Cheers M.

About another half a stone to go and then just concentrate on toning up. Whilst big muscles are impressive I'm not overly bothered, just to be toned will be a novelty.

Wouldn't mind a bit of advise about bulking up. I'm toned but wouldn't mind a bit more size as I'm a 30 Waist and 38 Chest. I'm 5 '7 and 11 stone on the nose. This is me. Not the best phone pic.

I work in a desinger menswear store as a personal shopper/image consultant type person. And I drive a 21 year old boy racer Escort and collect Stone Island. My boss hates me.

I wanted to get out of drink/drugs when we decided to have a baby, so I went 6 months of eating well, working out and not abusing drink/drugs before we tried.

Now we have a 8 week old daughter, I'm high on life and working out is my hobby!

I know im not supposed to expect miracles, but ive been going down the gym for 3 weeks now, at least 3 times a day....

ANd i cant notice a bit of piggin difference at all

I start my weight training (not hardcore!) on friday, ao i am hoping, that combined with the cardio will start to speed up the results a little!

That sounds a little excessive to me!

You'd be better off going 4 times a week and doing 45 mins cardio and 15 mins weights.

If you're not getting enough rest between sessions, your body isn't going to adjust to the changes.

Well in that case, three weeks isn't a lot, lol, just stick at it.

Once you really get into the swing of things you'll notice the progress. Then after a while it'll seem to stop again when you hit "the wall". Keep the work up and things will motor again.

<repeat to fade>

Just make sure you're not weighing yourself or studying your physique every couple of days, that's the worst thing you can do. Do it every four weeks or something like that

You wont really notice a difference because the change is gradual, but i bet you are feeling healthier without knowing it, and one day, youll run up about 6 flights of stairs without even breaking into a sweat, and then youll be like 'yeah the gym is paying off'

I don't really have any motivation as such. Its just something I enjoy doing and feel better for it. More importantly I feel like I'm turning to shit when I don't.

I initially got into the gym for a couple of reasons. First was injury as I got a few doing running and other sports so needed something with less impact. The second (sadly) was because I was young and living in a seaside town that is busy all summer then turns into a ghost town in the winter with nothing to do. I decided that for the summer months I would go to the gym to get fitter for the ladies that mysteriously appeared during the summer. Trouble is the gym doesn't stop you from being ugly.

I always seem to start getting to a shape/size that I am happy with and then something happens to reverse progress. I got a tumour once, then another time I got a broken hip and my latest excuse is being a new dad. Although I have been training again properly for about a month now and I feel alot better for it. I'm still carrying too much fat but the strength is slowly getting back up there.

And no pics of me as I am never happy with them. In my mind I am in much better shape. Whoever said the camera never lies was a lier themselves!

My motivation came from the fact I was 6'3 1/2" and weighed just over 10st

So wanted to gain a bit of muscle on my frame.

I also want to keep as fit as possible because I like sport, particularly playing football is a big part of my life. I could, possibly, have been a pro if it wasn't for injuries in my younger days. And because my parents, gradparents etc all struggled with ill health, and I want to give myself the best chance possible to avoid that

Firstly you look amazing in the beach pictures so i wouldn't be worrying too much, But also you cannot target a certain part of the body where you want to lose fat, You can hit certain muscles but then you will just have muscle with the fat still over the top. You just have to get about 500kals less than your normal maintenace dose and do loads of cardio your body decides where it will take fat from Which you aint got any to take

If you have a beer belly and do 6000 situps a day you will have mint abs but they will still have the fat over the top.

Sorry if this has been said i only got as far as this post

You must have looked anorexic.

Maria hun, judging by the sheer volume of shite you ate on Saturday then it's no wonder you're not seeing a difference.

What's your normal diet like?

yeah but mal i would normally eat that, and sit on my arse ALL week... so at least i am eating all that AND going to the gym!

Normal diet will be:

Brekky:
Cereal or Toast and an Activia yoghurt

!0.30am:
Chocolate bar and a banana

12.30:
Sandwich or sushi, with another chocolate bar

15.30
Chocolate bar

18.00
Anything from pasta, pie, mash, always some veg, but a 'normal' meal
Activia yoghurt

20.00:
chocoltae bar.... or 3

I know i know i know my diet has gone down the pan.... but i have ALWAYS eaten like this, regardless of whether i work out or not!

It's a good varied diet and looks balanced enough. You might wanna cut down on the chocolate a bit though.

Well done with the fags, if you can do three days stick at it.

4 days is better still. If you can go with only having a few fags a week then that's not so bad. Social smoking is like social drinking, it's allowed.

Since I started again I'm smoking more than I ever did and I'm really starting to feel it in my chest. I'm just waiting for the right time to stop.

Maria cut out the chocolate!!! Its simple really. If you train more and eat less than you usually do you'll lose weight. Just keep at it and dont lose faith!

Theres not much wrong with that. You don't have to cut out all of your chocolate if you don't want to, just that ones at 20:00 and 15:30 really. Replace your 15:30 one deffo with a flapjack or another peice of fruit though. Saying that. If you replaced your 12:30 bar with a flapjack you probably wouldn't need a choccy bar at 15:30 anyway.

Thats the reason I don't buy GOLD bars anymore! I open them up and just eat the whole pack!

If you eat all that, and have done for a sustained period without doing any real exercise so to speak of, you will lose weight doing a good cardio session 3 times a week.

Same goes the other way round, if your weight is constant and you stick to your "normal" lifestyle, be it you exercise or not, you can cut your food intake by 10%, regardless of what it is you cut out, and you will lose weight.

Simple maths and common sense really.
