Yep thats how i felt, pride took over i thought no i cant take meds to live a life...then i hit rock bottom and contemplated suicide Thats when my Missus and mates said (yes said) you got to take the fucking medication you spastic mutherfucker(Nice!) but for once i saw there point i was at rock bottom what the hell did i have to loose! Even though the meds will most probably end up giving other probs down the line its better than being dead! Not looked back so far, even though i feel like a junkie, but if its good enuff for the famous its good enuff for me!

I've wanted to play rugby properly again for a while, but never took the required steps towards that, in fact with my lifestyle being the way it was.. I was actually moving further and further away from being able to play again.
So I've seriously focused on sacking off the takeaways and booze, and tried very hard to get into a routine of going to the gym and working on my fitness generally... pre-season training starts in July and so far I've lost just over 4 stone and still have a fair way to go before I'm able to play rugby at a proper level again, but I think I'll come on faster once the season starts and I'm able to work back into match fitness in the 2nd or 3rd team.
In addition to my fitness stuff, I've re-connected with old friends that I'd lost touch with and have found myself a lot of various things, places and people to see rather than being stuck in the same rut that I was before.
I'm not saying its easy because it definitely isn't an easy road to take.. as I said, I was probably at most in a 'mild depression' so for people who are deeper state than me it could well be that there are other things which need to change, or support which needs to be in place (councelling/medication) before you focus on doing the things I did.
All the best though, there are plenty people on here who are around to chat if you need it.. by all means ping me a PM and I'll chat to you if you see me online and you need a blether with someone.
Cheers,
Grant

If you spot the early signs, seek help.
The Wakefield questionnaire gives you some idea of the signs of depression:

It's a common thing with mental illnesses. People would obviously seek help for cancer and follow the doctor's orders, and you'd take paracetamol for a headache, but people seem to avoid doing the same for mental illness until they hit rock bottom.

CBT isn't helping, but the med is. Some people have an imballance in the brain, such as I do and meds have made me feel normal again.
I felt so, so low, and actually have a drink and drug problem from trying to mask my mental problems

the meds versus therapy debate has been going on for years.
depends ultimately why your depressed. Some people its genetic caused, some people its life events, some people its current stress, and some a mix.
SSRI's just correct the chemical imbalance. fine if its genetic caused depression as its just a chemical imbalance that needs sorting, but generally or all other types of depression, meds dont solve the problem completely, you need to remove the stressors, deal with the issues or change your thinking patterns.

I saw my bipolar mate last week who told me that he is snorting coke regulary. I asked how much and he told me a gram every second day when he's being good! Jesus. He reckons he'll take less once he gets into an upswing - when he starts feeling unrealsitically positive.

well on a better note, I thought I would post to show others that there is life after depression.
Yesterday I got discharged from my counsellor at the psychology dept at the hospital ,
I been off anti depressants now for 5 months and Im quite proud of myself for diggin myself out of the hole I had got into.
Not sure what the future holds for me , but now I know I do have a future , 18 months ago I just could not see any point in getting up in the mornings
