Help, rst starting problem :(
Finished putting my xr2 turbo together the other day, and amazingly it started first time
It would start first time every time, tick over as if the cold start was working and then when the revs dropped from that, they seemed to slowly drop until it stalled, however i hadnt ran it for more than a minute and it only had a downpipe on so i wasnt too worried.
My mate suggested it may be stalling due to the cold start valve so we disconnected all the plugs to the back of the inlet and checked them with a multimeter, all seemed ok so we plugged them back in and.............nothing
wouldnt even fire.
Tried it again this morning and it was firing, firing, firing but just wouldnt go. now its back to nothing again.
I found this morning that the 10amp fuse between the ignition live and the ke relay was gone, changed it but still nothing. Theres a good spark, timing is all spot on and fuel seems fine too.
I dont understand all we did was remove all the inlet plugs and check them put them back on and now nothing
Are rs turbos easily flooded?
Help please !!

Are all the plugs on correctly?
When turning it over, get someone to hold the metering flap down bout 1cm, with cold start disconnected, see what happens then! (thats the only way i can get mine to start off the key
)
Could it be possible the cold start valve is flooding the engine whilst you crank it? disconnect it!

Ive tried with the cold start disconnected and with someone pushing the metering flap down............but at seperate times.
With the cone filter off i can see the metering flap bobbing up and down when im turning it over.
And we put the plugs back on the exact same way they were when it was starting.
Ive just been out, puched the metering flap down and theres a strong smell of petrol in there. Theres power to both the loom plugs on the metering head but.............the four fuel pipes that bolt into the top of the metering head, i loosened one of those off, got my mate to crank it and i expected a big squirt of petrol out of it........but nothing

when i did the zetec conversion i tested one of the injector plugs witha multimeter to see if i was getting a pulse to them, all was well so i connected it up but it ran like a back of shit when i started it....
...turned out after week of head scratching that id bend the pins inside the plug juuust enough to not make proper contact, so was getting no fuel on that injector....
just thinking you might have done the same thing with them plugs?
youve not touched the coolant temp sensor have you? i had hassle with mine starting from cold when that packed up aswell....

Just been and tried the metering head again.
When i loosen one of the fuel pipe nuts on the top theres no fuel coming out, but when i loosen the nut on the fuel return to the tank is squirts out.
So...has anyone had this problem ? theres about 7-8 volts going to the metering head with the ignition on. im not sure how the metering head works, is it likely that its just packed up ?
Cheers.

Its not even trying to fire stu, and ive had all those plugs off and checked no pins or contacts were bent. Seems now its only getting fuel as far as the metering head and not to the injectors but like i say i dunno how the metering unit actually works
as far as i know mate its just an air flow meter...
you tried holding the flap and the throttle open while trying to start it? this will get the ECU trying to start it at a different point on the map, thats the way it works on the eec-v anyway...worth trying., it might stop it over/under fueling....

It would seem that the metering head is just sending the fuel straight back down the return rather than to the injectors. The bit im not sure on is wether this would be a mechanical or electrical fault
I should have just put 40's on it

Yeah mate theyre definitely the right way round........ive done a search on here and a lot of reading this afternoon, ive since been out to the car and.........
1.Swapped the dump valve for a spare, then blocked it off completely
2.Traced all pipes, filler cap, dipstick looking for leaks
3.Tried holding the metering flap down, with and without the cold start
4.Theres fuel going down the return, and to the cold start but nothing to the injectors
5.I dont have the heated seats fuse as mentioned by Stu@MSD in another thread as you dont use the rst fusebox for the conversion
Im completely stumped now, the only other thing i can put it down to is that the 10amp fuse from the ignition live to the KE relay was burnt out, ive changed this and the only other thing i can think it could be is the black fuel ecu
