rs problem
hi just got my first rst on saturday and its broke already
when the car was workin i turned the ignition on and let the fuel pump prime up which sounded like a buzzing sound for a few secs. then the car cut out and when i turn the ignition on the pump is hissing like its just blowing air. the pump was pretty noisey when the car was runing
so does this sound like its the fuel pump thats broken?
thanks for any help im desperate to get it fixed and start using it

i went to the petrol station and filled up a petrol can a put that in so there is fuel there.
i can hear the pump hissing when trying to start it but it wont start. when i made the buzzing sound it started fine.
just since the sound of the pump changed it wont start.
weve tried the fuel relay and the inj fuse and there ok.
how much is it for a new pump and where can i get one. thanks

i phoned AVA and they said that the non return valve could be away aswell but ford no longer stock this part so wot do i do if it is that aswell??
T28 RST i ordered a pump today from amber performance Ł105. ford wanted Ł189+vat
The car should still run if the non return valve is gone but it will be a slag to start as there is no pressure in the fuel system, bypass the relay and allow the pump to run for at least 30 secs and see if it will start then. Or alternatively leave it overnight and see if theres pressure in the system in the morning before you try and start it.
My valve was gone, it did run bit it took about 3+ minutes of solid cranking to start it.

i tried that on monday after it was in the garage all nite. i was trying to start it and it nearly fired up the firts time but nothin after that.
i tried it again today but the battery has died with crancking it over constantly

when my pump buggered it done the same, check my thread (s2 wont run, finished for now)
theres a possibility that the impellar has worn in the pump, therefore it will wizz round, but wont push fuel through,so if you know how to do the pressure check this could confirm a few things,1 as above,2 theres a blockage,3 a leak.
my guess is the pump. could be wrong tho.

i dont know how to check the fuel pressure
i dont want to take the battery out either this car has the most complicated cliford alarm ive ever seen
and i will need to reprograme it

u mean leaking fuel? its not leacking as when it happend it was raining and would have seen the fuel on the wet road. ive had the car up on axle stands aswell and nuthing is leaking
If the pump sounds different its more than likely because that valve has gone and therefore there is no pressure so its spinning freely rather than working against the pressure, as someone surther up said about the tone changing.
Try checking to see if theres fuel pressure first. Do you know how to do this?

or it could be the rollers in the pump .or the valve
bet its the pump
mine was the same and i changed the lot, injectors, leads plugs dizzy metrehead unit, fuel tank , then the pump, hey presto the pump it was!

There is every possibility the pump could be worn out, but they usually progressively wear rather than just suddenly go.
No i was looking at them wiring diagrams and screwing over them because theres so many variations between all the diagrams, im sure its only 1 wire, i'll have another look ASAP and try and give you an answer

A noisey pump is a sign of wear, the pump on my cabriolet was so loud you could hear it down the road when you primed it
but then that valve had been gone for probably years (it was gone when i got the car) so the pumps been working far harder than it should have to.
Well, the way i prefer, is to get the air filter off, and push the flap down gently. It should have a very slight resistance, and should rise steadily and not instantly. If it springs back instantly and bounces theres no pressure. If your not sure, after you have done that, prime the pump a few times and do it again and see if it feels different.
OR you can just crack the nut on the main fuel pipe but if there is pressure fuel is going to piss out everywhere. The first option is favourable.

i could hear the pump runing when the car was started like when i was sitting at traffic lights
i will just wait till i get the new pump and put it on and see how it goes.
hopefully it will go

The airbox is simple to remove and definately worth a try, if you fit the new pump and its not that then thats Ł100+ spent and not needed, and i know that pisses me off when ive done it before.

but atleast thats 1 less thing i will need to change in the next few years
it just doesnt want to fire up. the flap is moving up and down when cranking it over.
i think it may not be getting a gd spark so wot will this lead into now
i pushed the flap down and there is a bit of resistance. ive taken the nut off the fuel filter and the fuel sprayed out then stopped, i tookn the bolt rite out and wrapped a rag round the pipe and crancked it over for a few secs and the rag was soaked in fuel.
i tried to turn it over again today. after a few atempts i took the plugs out and they were bone dry and then put new plugs in, tried again and took 1 out and was bone dry again
