A noisey pump is a sign of wear, the pump on my cabriolet was so loud you could hear it down the road when you primed it

but then that valve had been gone for probably years (it was gone when i got the car) so the pumps been working far harder than it should have to.
Well, the way i prefer, is to get the air filter off, and push the flap down gently. It should have a very slight resistance, and should rise steadily and not instantly. If it springs back instantly and bounces theres no pressure. If your not sure, after you have done that, prime the pump a few times and do it again and see if it feels different.
OR you can just crack the nut on the main fuel pipe but if there is pressure fuel is going to piss out everywhere. The first option is favourable.
