I've just about had it - I fucking hate Windows and now this thing is pissing me off biug time......
Right so last thread saw drop outs in the WLAN connection and general slow running of web pages
So I thought since this only started after a reformat, then I would do another, which I have just completed. Fresh XP SP2 install, all drivers installed.
Ran network wizard, got it onto my network, it can see all computers blah blah.
But AGAIN same fucking problems!
- Can't access other computers on network even tho they show up - NETWORK PATH NOT FOUND : CONTACT ADMINISTRATOR etc
- Internet freezes. Open IE and it will go to homepage and maybe a search page, but after 1 or 2 pages it just freezes - do a search or open a new tab for example it just sits there doing fuck all then after about 30secs it says CANNOT FIND PAGE or PAGE CANNOT BE DISPLAYED etc. The only way to get it to work again is turn off the wifi, turn it on again, wait for it to connect, then re-open IE. Then it does it all over again!
This is really beginning to fuck me off and there's really no point having a laptop if it behaves like this - it works fine on virtually all other wifi networks/hotspots I can connect to out and about in the streets, but in my own house it's fucking shit!
I don't understand it!

Right, I'm getting about ten seconds of usable internet before I have to close IE, turn off the wifi, turn it back on, reconnect and reopen IE, then renavigate to the page I was on - by which time I can't use the internet anymore, even tho my wifi indicator in the taskbar says "CONNECTED, SPEED 11Mbps, SIGNAL EXCELLENT / VERY GOOD"
WTF

Just to add, since my other threads keep disappearing towards the bottom - my router/NAS/wifi box is all uptodate with firmware, all firewalls are turned off, and I can't see it being the wifi card in this laptop cos it works on EVERY other wifi network/hotspot I connect to outside on the streets - I only have problems in my house with my own network!
encryption is WPA (TKIP), all computers are set to sharing, no firewalls on anything, and it just doesn't work! Right now, the wifi indicator told me it now has no or limited connectivity so I'll have to close it all again and try again!

Thing is I don't have anything else to swap it out with. This is my wired router, NAS server, ethernet hub and wifi access point all in one! So I'd have to buy a router, NAS drive and a wireless access point and hook it all up to see if it makes any difference.......
Oh right, just seems that you've about exhausted everything else so the router would be the next logical step. Could you not just borrow a basic router, plumb it in power it up and see how your laptop network card deals with that. Least it would give you some idea on where the issue might be.

Yeah i guess it's the only real option left, but the laptop is fine when hardwired, so I'd need to get a wireless router, then figure out what to do about my NAS server...

I know
Least you replied tho, thank you
I've emailed Freecom about it as it's less than a year old so hopefully still under warrenty. It was working absolutely spot on untill the last couple weeks. I'm sure it has to be a problem with the router as the laptop connects to every other wifi signal with no problems, so it can't be the wireless card in the laptop. It can't be the OS as I reinstalled. Likewise with the drivers.

Right, sent email to thier support team and got told today to update to latest firmware, which is still in BETA form, but trying it anyway.... So far it's been better - still getting drop outs, but it's given me the option to change channels now, so I might try that...
Recently I updated the firmware on my router and it stopped the Xbox wireless adapter from working, due to new security settings/protocols so I had to load the older firmware and everything was good again. Never leave any items set to auto update the firmware as sometime you cant roll it back.

Nah it's manual update only and I made a back up of the previous firmware just in case...
To be honest, it seems better. Still takes a while to aquire network address, and I had a couple drop outs on Youtube yesterday, but on the whole it's a lot better.
Strange one tho. The router has an internal HDD (NAS drive) on which is 4 folders. Music, Video, Pictures, Files. Now, when accessing music, pictures and files I have no problems. But when I try and access VIDEO (which has a bunch of sub folders in it, inside each is a video file) the wireless signal drops out. Every time. This only happens wireless - when hardwire connected it works fine.
Strange as fuck. Think I might have to take all the files off it, format it, then put them back on...
