ok, ive got a mk4 escort, base spec btw
after driving it this morning, with the window down due to the lovely sunshine, i noticed a strange noise coming from the drivers side front hub area
its like a squeeky/ light grinding noise, which occurs all the time wen moving, and becomes louder upon acceleration and going round left corners.
my first thought was wheel bearing due to it sounding like its loading up on corners etc.
but it doesnt sound like the grinding that occured last time a wheel bearing went, this is more squeeky, if that makes sense
iv also been told it could b a driveshaft that has worked loose? im not sure on this, i dont pretend to be a mechanic so i wont try and say i know for sure.
i have noticed that my outer cv boot on the shaft does seem to be leaking slightly aswel, if this would make any difference or cause any problems. the shaft itself was replaced about 8 months ago and is not knocking at all, so i dont think its a dead shaft.
if any1 has any ideas, it would be appreciated.

try driving the car slowly on full lock, do this in both directions. If you can hear a clicking sound then it will be a CV joint that has gone, but from the way you describe it, I would say wheel bearing

Also check the rubbers in your strut (suspension) havent dried out. I spent months tracing a similar sound -replaced bearing - stripped down driveshaft and all parts round there - no difference. Took of strut put grease on the rubber bit and it stopped, lol!
the simple things shouldnt be overlooked

i would say the wheel bearing aswell ive had loads go on my 3i and rs and they all sounded different, a wheel bearing is normally a droneing sound though, which can get quieter if u turn the steering when driving one way, check what the above said aswell about the top rubber mounts spray them or grease them up
