I often end up having to put an old xr3i fuel pump between fuel filter and pump to get them to bleed. Have seen them crank for ages before they start and continue to run.

i use my fluid extractor for these (and all diesels nowerdays tbh) its the vacuum type for draining sumps through the dipstick, i just attach it to pipe from filter to pump and give it a couple of pumps and they always start immediatley, before i had one of these i used to fill the filter to the brim with diesel then tow them until they started

now that would be gutting! allthough rare, you sure they hadnt changed the oil at the same time as i always like to fire chain driven cars straight up after an oil change to prevent this as i know a lad at vw who told me of some polo's that had jumped chains after being left overnight with the oil drained!!

may well of been, it was a little while ago. I think they guy just ended up scrapping it as he had no end of grief with the car, i think jumping the chain was the straw that broke the camels back!!

As mentioned on other replies ![Clap](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/9c-clap.gif)
This is what I use on a daily basis
Fit new diesel filter
Remove pipe connected to filter housing that goes to the fuel pump on the engine
Use the pump to suck diesel through until about 1/8 - 1/4 ltr has passed through
Reconnect fuel pump pipe
Then start engine
It really is that simple![ban-split](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/ban-split.gif)
NOTE - I always replace oil and filter first and restart engine then check oil level etc etc BEFORE beginning to replace fuel filter as this prevents the dreaded cam chain jumping due to a "deflated" chain tensioner

had bother with these before as well
as mentioned get pump between filter and pump
it wont jump the timing chain as the 2litre focus uses the peugeot 2ltr
so its belt driven not chain so no oil pressure required like the old mondeo duratorques

Have had a lot of trouble on older cars. Even brand new lorrys and forklifts if you've
It the filter full of fuel and still no get some one to crank the engine and give it the slightest sniff of brake cleaner or easy start just enough to make it fire once drags the fuel up a treat.

You have the inlet pipe left hand side of the filter, outlet pipe the right side, (PS you dont need to remove these to change the filter,) the important one is just behind the filter and is the return to tank pipe normally with a green fitting, Unclip the red clips which are 2 parts first one comes up the other part goes down. you may need to use a small screwdrive to gentle spread the end to get thgese apart, fit a pipe to the green end and suck fuel out until it runs without a lot of air in it re connect the ends and now start the engine a bring the revs up to 2000 - 2500 for a minute, this sould clear any more air in the system. Job done.
My mate changed his fuel filter on hia astra and did not bleed it, so he called out his breakdown firm, who just sprayed easy starty in it until it bleed its self, not what i would have done but it worked for him.
