Wrong Fuel
Hey Guys - I have got a very sick Ford Mondeo 2003 TDCi, and it needs a doctors TLC, My son put in petrol instead of diesel, realised the mistake and then the bugger topped up with diesel. The car drove for about 8-10 miles and conked out, so I towed it back to the house as it was less then quater of a mile from my house (automatic). Since then I have drained the tank and filled it half with diesel. I have sucked out the diesel through the fuel filter so the lines have diesel in them. I then went ahead and bought a new fuel filter, filled it to the top with fresh diesel and fitted it. again I sucked diesel through the filter to ensure there is no air lock in the filter. Cranked the engine about 50 times but will not fire. I then sprayed Easy Start and it tries to start as long as the quick start is there and then dies. I thought there still might be air in the system so i fitted a manual hand pump from filter to pump and primed the system. Again using Easy Start tried to start it but still the same. I cracked open very slightly the nuts on the injectors to ensure thayt the is fuel and all 4 injectors have good pressure of diesel coming through. So I now have concluded that there is fuel up to the injectors and that there is no air lock. So whay the hell will it not fire. Trying to start it I have now used up 3 cans of Easy start.
Can anyone suggest what else I can try - I did think about towing but unfortunatly it is an automatic.
Can someone please throw any light on this, anything would be seriously appreceiated.

It can sieze the pumps on TDCi's in no time. The diesel acts as a lubricant through the pump, petrol is the exact opposite. It has been known for the pump to start disintegrating in only a few miles, sending metal shards through the fuel lines.
The pumps are coded to the ECU and replacement is very expensive, sometimes not worth the value of the car. I hope this isn't the case.

When I took off the lod filter there was no metal filings or residue of any sort, because I emptied the contents of the filter in a flear jug. I seriously hope this is not the case too. Tomorow I will take of the injectors and see if that works.
I borrowed an old snapon 2500 code reader and put it on. These are all the codes it came up with:-
Po221
Po100
Po1000
P1211
P2291
P0251
Can anyone make head or tail from all these codes, I dont have a clue.
Thanks

Hi there
Just google the codes and your answers will be there. I know it seems that you have a lot of codes stored but you will have created some of them whilst fault finding. I am having issues with the same car ATM and have tried all sorts to find the issue and am still currently scratching my head.
I have spoken to multiple people on this and one chap told me that if they run out of fuel you risk damaging the injectors. Now mine has not run out of fuel but the next thing for me is to have the injectors tested and see what that brings.
Please post once you have got to the bottom of it as we seem to be short of answers for these engines which ARE so problematic it seems.

Po221 - throttle pedal sensor position circuit fault (car will start with this code)
Po100 - air flow meter/MAF fault (car will start with this code)
Po1000 - this is normally shown if codes have been deleted previously and OBD drive cycle not carried out (does not effect running of car)
P1211 - Injector Control Pressure Sensor Above/Below Desired Level.
P2291 - fuel pressure low on cranking
P0251 is due to lack of fuel pressure, can be pump failure, can be injectors leaking back excess fuel which reduces pressure - ideally needs leak off test doing on injectors and fuel pressure test on live data.
Cracking off the injectors won't tell you the full story, you need to know if there is excessive leak back from each injector. If there is an internal fault with an injector the fuel goes in the high pressure side and straight out of the return NOT into the engine.
