Ford ids
Alright there new to the forum.
Just got hold of a ex company ford transit connect 2008 1.8 model.
Vans spot on and is fully kitted out with tool storage.
Just a issue that needs seeing to due to me doing mainly motorway miles.... The dreaded speed limiter 68mph on dials and 65mph sat nav reading.
Been in quite a few dangerous positions overtaking lorries.
Got a mate with the ford ids to connect up to ecu to remove the limiter.
He has asked me before he does this to clarify if:-
1. Removing limiter will reprogram pcm does this require pats ( parimeter reset)?
2. Access to the pats reset does it need the "incode" off ford etis?
3. Does pats reset need 2 original keys or can it be done with 1?
4. Will Accessing the pcm and reprogramming it leave a history as to who and when its been changed?
Cheers in advance if anyone can help

Hi there, yes, when you alter the speed limiting function on connects, you have to re-initialize the pats, you will need an incode so you will need an etis login.

Cheers for that response , looks like it will be a dealer job.
Can you tell me if the ecu leaves a history i.e if a pcm has been reprogrammed or altered would it tell the next person who connects up to the vehicle of who and when it was modified?

No, it wont leave any detail like that unless it's been altered as part of a warranty repair because we have to use the online version of ETIS and the sessions are sent to Ford. If it's been reprogrammed using offline ETIS, i.e standard IDS, the detail isn't stored.
Sorry to keep asking questions.
I appreciate your knowledge you a ford technician?
So in order for it to leave a trace that would only be at the incode part? As that connects to etis?
If he was to reprogram pcm for no speed limiter ( understand van wouldnt start due to pats) would the ford tech be able to diagnose running diagnostics that all it would require is a pats reset or would they reprogram pcm again?
Sounds daft asking that, reason being would it be cheaper to just require pats incode for reset than ask for speed limiter removal ( also limiter removal can have some legal issues?)
Once again appreciate your replies.
Cheers

No problem mate, yes, i am a ford tech.
Yes, the only trace would be at the incode part, but i think it would probably work out cheaper in the long run to just book it in at your local dealer tbh, if you were to book it in at the dealer wher i worked for example, they would charge 1 hours labour to remove the speed limiter, re-initialize it and test that its worked etc, they'd also still charge the same labour just to re-initalize it so you'd be no better off really, i would think most other dealers would be the same tbh.
Plus you'd have to recover the van to the dealer because it wouldn't start so that would probably be more hassle and expense.

Think ill just take to the dealer seems not to bad 1 hours labour thought might of taken longer.
Out of interest what would happen if it just needed a pats reset? Would they diagnose it ? And reset it or would they reprogram pcm again?

Been thinking, is it still under warranty? If it is, you could get your mate to reset the speed limiter, then if it won't start, book it in at your local dealer as a non starter and get it done for nothing lol. Only bad side to that though is, depending on how busy they are, you could be in for a wait, we're always snowed under with quality broken down Fords and they get looked at on a first come, first served basis. Just a thought, i would think the easiest way would be just to book it in and have it done though.

Yes its still under warrenty.
If I was to do that what procedure would they do first ( diagnostics?). What fault codes would it bring up. Wouldnt they just reprogram pcm? Or just recode key/s.
I get free recovery and hire van so it wouldnt be no trouble just be a nightmare if they reprogrammed it to as built data.
Cheers again

For warranty repairs, we have to use SBD, (syptom based diagnostics), basically, we login to Ford after connecting the vehicle to ids, select the fault symptoms from a series of drop down boxes, i.e, non start etc. and it then searches Fords database for known concerns and diagnostic routines, I would imagine it would just store various pats fault codes, they wouldn't be able to tell if you'd altered the speed limiter. You could always clear the codes after you'd done it, then try to start it a few times, that way it should just have the pats fault codes stored.

my 57 plate tranny went in for a service and came back with no limiter! (they did a company driving test with me where it hit at 62 then next week i started and took the van and it was off and has its 15k service the day before)
sadly i gave it down the list and my lad now comes past me at 95 now mine is stuck at 60
it was just local garage service too!, mines up for its 1st soon so ill get em to drop it out agian too, mate who is a ford tech said he will do it but its now worth the hassle being there at lunch time etc

peel the sticker off that says it's limited though! as the tech may see that if you're trying to take it for a warranty repair and set the limiter again.
Personally i don't see why you don't just booking it in and get the limiter taken off? Ł50 should see it done.

UPDATE
Decided to let my mate remove the limiter and got ford to recover the car as a none starter.
Oh what a can of worms this has opened.
They couldnt find any fault codes and decided to check wiring etc even though I dropped plenty of hints regarding immobiliser issue.
I had to jump start the van few days before as I left light on for a few days.
I told ford this as they asked any issues in the last week.
Now they have come back to me and told me Ive sent a power surge and messed up abs(Ł750 ish bill).
This is absolute bullshit and fraud right infront of my eyes, the van was fine after a jump start and drove perfect.

lol, says he who has had the limiter taken off and had the car recovered to get fixxed under warranty.
I wouldn't be suprised if ones of the techs at the workshop you've taken the van too has read this thread previously and is taking you on a wind-up!
