Took the CSL for its new screen today.
Not only did they fit the wrong screen, but they binned my BMW dealer tax disk holder and then couldnt find it (said it was split)
Manager stood outside for 10 minutes with me saying it was the right screen, I was saying it wasnt, he looked through the skip and couldnt find the screen, eventually he walked out of the place holding the right screen in the packet (anti reflective and top tint) offered to put it in next week once the bond had set, has to break this one to get it out (dealer screen)
people dont give a fcuk anymore

I used to work for RAC autowindscreens and for the payment my manager used to say that even if the customer was not happy they had to pay as it was thier contract with the insurance company not RAC.. Load of shit if you ask me, customer is number 1.
We used to make customers check over the car before paper work signed!
hope you get it sorted mate.. do a proper check at all inside areas of wing and down inside of A pillar trims..

Bastards!!!
A bit off topic but a few years ago i was arguing with autoglass that my 1990 mark 5 escort ghia had a heated windscreen. According to the guy at the desk escorts didn't come with heated windscreens until some time later, cant remember the stupid ass year he said. I was like WTF?! Series 2 turbos have heated fucking windscreens. Fucking twat he was.
After all that i went to premier windscreens and got offered non-heated or heated, i got the non-heated one fitted cos i didn't give a shit ha ha but it just shows what some places are like. I really don't know how he could have justified it...
Anyway hope you get your problem sorted...

2) it's a tax disc holder, get over it! - and yes they do, in most cases (99%) of the time split as dealers use cheap plastic that dries in the sun and tears when you try and remove them. I know as I remove 6-7 tax discs a week, and BMW are the worst of all of them. Any BMW dealer will give you a new holder, if not a bundle, for free if you ask them.
3) Sorry to hear you had the wrong screen. What you should have had was a solar with green top tint (solar being the reflective coating you can see in the laminate) Possibly might have had a moisture/light sensor on the screen aswell (below the mirror) As for manager saying it was right when it wasn't - see point 1
![Wink](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)
4) it DOES take a week for the bond to dry, and there is little point trying to remove a screen before this time - especially on a 3 series that has material covered a-post trims that if even a spec of glue gets on you will NEVER get it off. And yes, there is a very high chance the screen will be broken trying to remove it - unless of course you specialise in removing screens without damaging them or the car, such as myself
![Wink](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)
5) Some do, like myself. If a screen is not right/correct, I won't fit it - simple. Unless of course the customer approves the differences and signs to say so. I will fit a top tint screen or "higher spec" screen (such as a solar) into a vehicle that doesn't have one as standard (ie, many E36 beemers didn't have top tints - non top tint screens are nigh on impossible to get as BMW superceeded them with top tint only screens, so if I go to a non-top-tint car with a top tint screen, then I'll fit it as the guy is getting a better screen for no extra charge. I won't, however, do it the other way round... Way I see it, you get what you already have, or get a better one for free

It's simple retail policy across the board - you get a new product fitted, you pay for it. If it is wrong or faulty, you still pay for it. This enters you into a contract between yourself and the supplier to rectify the situation.

The contract for the product replacement is between the customer and the windscreen company. If a product is incorrectly supplied/fitted, or faulty, the contract still lies with the windscreen company. The insurance company have nothing to do with it other than the payment and proceedure of allowing the replacement.

I just hate it when peeps criticise or slag off stuff they don't know the ins and outs of - and since I do know the ins and outs and behind the scenes stuff for this industry, I thought I'd impart some knowledge ![Wink](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)
RAC are, on the whole, a bunch of dicks (in my expiriences) but people are very quick to judge even when they don't know the score

well as I said before, he actually showed me the correct screen, new in the packet, so it was a human error (not that they had ordered the wrong one)
I suppose its tough titty on the holder, but I cant get a replacement as the dealer has now had a name change, just a bit shitty as I am a sucker for originality on cars and its only done 9000 miles. I guess I should of taken it out myself before I went there. Now i've got a bright orange RAC one !!!
It will definatly be going back for the right screen.

good job your roof is carbon fibre and wont rust. every screen fitter i know scrapes the paint off when scraping / removing old windscreen sealer. ive seen too many rusty leading edges on roofs due to this.

thats a Very "autoglass" thing to say. I have worked in loads of UK depots for RAC auto windscreens and yes I will agree some are total tossers but there are a lot of good fitters with excellent attention to detail. Iv seen some rough jobs come from autoglass fitters but also some good so I couldnt say the same about fitters I know nothing about!!

well it was back in today.
Correct screen now fitted, and no damage anywhere.
They managed to get the standard M3 screen out without breaking it, so all's good.

So after all that you got the result you should have had to start with.
You've got to love 'UK PLC'![Surprised](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/bigcry.gif)
I've always done my own screens, easy in old cars. I'm not looking forward to doing the mk4 though should it ever break - huge bit of glass to swing about.

Thrush.
Not all AutoGlass' are created equal.
Your Eastbourne branch were cack. Fitted a screen to my M3 whilst it was at a bodyshop. The glue wasnt touching the screen on 75% of the A pillars! Bodyshop pointed it out to me And the AG guy didnt want to renew the seal round the screen either. Only cos the bshop told them it was binned did he reluctantly fit a new one! WTF?!

THRUSH as you obviously know about this sort of thing how hard is it to remove the rear quarter glass on a mk3 golf (3 door)? any help much appreciated

Rostill - piece of piss, but only if you know what you're doing and have the stuff. Problem with mk3 Golfs is that the glass is what we call "encap" which means it has a trim bonded to the glass. In the case of the mk3 Golf, it's a flap of rubber around the perimeter of the glass. On the side that bonds to the car, it has a raised section of rubber (part of the flap you see from the outside) that is the height block for the glass (so it sits at the right height from the aperture)
To remove these without cutting this rubber encap from glass isn't the easiest thing in the world if you haven't done it before. But that don't mean it can't be done![Wink](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)
From the inside, strip out the trim around the window - rear quarter panel "door card" and the surrounding trim. Then, you need a SHARP craft knife, like this one : http://www.olfa.co.jp/en/body/detail/15.html - but don't use segmented blades, as single piece blades are much stronger.
Get some glass cleaner (the blue stuff you fill your screen wash with) and put some in a spray bottle. Spray the shit out of the bond you can see from the inside of the car (I mean SOAK it - you'll probably need to keep doing so as it'll evaporate)
Then you need to VERY carefully cut through the bond with the knife. You need to stay as close to the metal of the car as possible so you cut the bond, not the encap. Be carefull not to have the blade too long as a) it'll snap and bend easily and b) you don't want to go through too far and scratch the paintwork outside the car or cut off the encap flap. Look at the glass from the outside and visualise a 1cm wide section all around the edge of the glass (not including the encap flap) this is where the glue is!
Now if you are carefull and slow, you'll get it out without destroying the encap. Quick tip - get some masking tape (make sure the window and car is clean!) and stick a few strips (good length for strength) across the window to the car body - say two vertical strips and one across the middle, horizontally. This will stop the window falling out and smashing on the floor when you cut through all the glue!!!! (Wouldn't be the first time I have seen that happen
)
Hope this helps
