well just lost my job recentley. worked in garages scince leaving school. done spray painting, mechanical and a lot of fabrication work. after spending time today ay job centre it looks like im going to end up on the scrap heap. dont fancy making ready meals in a sweat box factory. any advice would be great as i have a mortgage and two small kids amd wife to support. imin newcastle so if yous know of owt going id appreciate being tipped the wink. im a good grafter and take great pride in my work. thanks for taking the time to listen to me moan lads,

What sort of work are you looking for? and what sort of salary?

My advice mate is to visit every single place in your area that does similar sort of that your used to. Most jobs arent advertised in the job centre. A good impression face to face with the boss is often enough to get a trial.

If you cant get anything you want, then take anything. The best place to get a job is when you are in a job. You just need to keep in the routine of getting up every morning and going to work.

Speak to your morgage company, If you cannot find a job then maybe you could use any employment insurance you have.

Ehat area of the country are you in mate? people on here may know of something that interests you.

Keep your chin up mate, Dont look at it as a kick in the cunt, but an opportunity to progress your career

well i've always worked in a garage,painter, but i can d just about anythin in the garage. i had been thinking about a change of career recently hough. but at this time a dont think i can start turning jobs down realy so am just loking for something to see me over.i have money put aside but was hoping to get myself a nice 3 door in the summer but that may have to wait for a while now. as for salary, that will obviously be dependant on the sort of job i end up taking. thanks for your kind words folks, im sure i will find something son.

Chin up buddy, there is always work for Good mechanics, especially ones that can do spraying fabricating etc.

Just a thought, get yaself to the local Club meets be it XR/RS/FFOC, and ask around there.

Final option, have you considered setting up on your own? Or even going in with someone else? Don't right it off mate, go speak to your local Chamber of comerce they hold seminars that advise you on setting up, and even in this financial climate, banks are more than willing to offer business loans etc.

thanks for the advice mate. i had my own place for about 7 yr, but i never seemed to have any time to myself,my daughter seemed to be growing up without me. work was plentiful but the whole stress of running your own place was'nt for me,so i sold up.been loking round the net today as i fancy a change of direction but there isnt much going for early 30's, they all want experience so it looks like i may be staying in the same profession fo a while longer. i have a couple interviews lined up for painting, but i find it so tedious now and dont enjoy it anymore, but beggars cant be choosere can they?

No idea what pay levels you looking for, but I know if it was me out of work, with a mortgage, 2 kids and a wife to think about, I wouldn't be fussy, any money is better than no money! I'm not in your area so can't help you out, but go to your local autoglass - they are always taking on staff. It's piss easy work, specially if you have an understanding of cars and mechanics in general (cos that'll help with problem solving and stripoping and refitting vehicles). Not the best pay packet in the world, but not the worst either. And they provide you with everything too - training, tools, van, etc etc.....

Gotta worth a shot even if just short term.....

i aint to fussed at the mo. i have 3 interviews lined up next week as a painter. i should get 1 of those as i'm very good at my job.
