Yes very harsh!

But dont forget, the courts have been told to get as much revenue in as possible - after all, something has got to pay for all these asylum seekers! And all of the other financial cock-ups of this government of late! The motorist is just a mobile cashpoint for the government to tap into!

As for the points, haven't they changed the scale? Eg. if he had been caught doing 33mph he would have got 2 points and if he had been doing 55mph, 7000 points and both his legs removed and 15 years in jail? Or was that for naming a teddy Gordon?

Not that much of a pricely sum to pay, all depends on the circumstances and type of road, it must've been 30mph for a reason? I know some dual carriage ways where there are no pedestrians are restricted to 30, which would be harsh to get that sort of punishment.

I'm not saying I stick too all speed limits 100%, times and places certainly like to put foot down - most 30mph round here are built up areas, it is shocking to see just by how much people round here break the 30mph
He must've known he was in a 30mph and chose not to obey it (either there are signs (don't people pay attention to the road signs around them?!) or 'streetlights no sign 29.9' unlucky he got caught, remember kids:

If hit by a car at 40mph, there is a 90% chance the pedestrian will be killed; If hit by a car at 30mph, there is an 80% chance the pedestrian will survive

Who's at fault, them for hiding and catching you, or you speeding?

As I say I'm no angel, I do speed where I feel its appropriate (and when I say 'speed' I mean going quicker than the alloted speed limit) but not in lower limit built up areas

Don't worry, give it a 'few years' and any time you do more than 3mph over the speed limit, the government implanted gps transponder in your brain will automatically inform the DVLA which will issue an automatic fine - or even take it directly from your salary or bank account. Collect 2 of these in 3 months and your car will be confiscated! Or blown up with you in it!

The future is bright, lol!

There is no mention of where the '30' limit is in the post. I know of 30/40 zones in the middle of no where, on open roads that should be national limits. The talivans tuck themselves away behind signs and bushes because they know drivers are easy targets around that area.

Thats why I said it depends on the circumstances of what type of road and where the 30 placed etc - we have a few annoying 30 & 40's on main roads which are mostly national speed limit, and annoyingly you have to slow down to them, in case you get caught

Then you get the annoying old duffers who pull out in front of you and sit at 45ish then get to a 30, and carry on going at 45ish oblivious of the limit change, then get into the nationals, you catch them up then stuck behind them at 45ish

Do you agree with the speed limit there at 30mph? I mean some Road Safety Officers still assume we all drive a 1967 Mini 850 with drum brakes all round!

And of course a 30mph limit at 11pm at night by a school is really sensible as the kids are still there! Well some may be - robbing the fuckin' place!! Or cooking up some heroin.

I have no objection to speed limits but they need to be appropriate to the time and place! What may be 30mph and rightly so in the day may be too slow in the evening.

The unfortunate fact of today is that if you contest the ticket and go to court, you usually end up with more points and/or a higher fine.

That is unfortunately the case! Unless you are a senior police officer or chief cunt stable. It will more than likely be reduced then!

If the pedestrian looks boh ways and crosses the road when its safe, theres a 0% chance of survival, as they will probably be mugged, as there aint no real police on the streets!

I thought it was up to 15mph over before it went up from 3 points and £60 fine?!
10 years ago I got 3 points and £40 fine for 42 in a 30.
Must be more to this story?

Usually for 41mph you'll just get a NIP and an offer of 3 points and £60 fine.

They usually take loads of variables into account. Time of the day, road conditions, weather, where it was, was it near a school, during lucnch/breaks etc, on a bend, near a crossing....and so on. Every case is different.

Seems harsh to me, but if he did contest it and went to court that's the risk you take.

Had a pro laser set up this morning, was a 40mph zone going into a 30. We only concerned ourselves with the 40 part though.

Tickets were given out to anything 54 or above, seemed fair to me. Highest we had was 59.

We were standing with the laser clearly visible for a good distance along the road, no hidey go seekey cos to me thats just plain unfair, just two blokes in High Vis jackets and still people did not see us

Both really.
Obviously Dual you can only speed by 4/5 mph, but single is most worrying.
Went past one at 44/45 other day, wide straight road.....
Lorry was in looks like a 7.5 tonner though it's so short, except for the hgv markings.
Is the 10% +2 used all that much?

One thing I hate with the lorries, can't rely on any speedo overead to get you out of trouble

Probably but he'll more than likely come out with a £250 fine in return.

The best thing he can do is accept it and take it on the chin.

It's a known fact that if you contest the speeding and take it to court, that you'll get a bigger fine and more points.

If he appeals, he can probably expect more points and an even larger fine.

The camera caught him fair and square and he should have accepted that or sought advice before embarking on going to court to fight it. He only has himself to blame.

What Lynn said.

Did he plead not guilty in the first place, hence the £150 and 4 points - instead of taking the normal fixed penalty?

i got caught by a copper with a laser gun behind a brick wall in an empty tunnel. was doing 47 in a 30. the 30 sign was a good couple of miles and several major round abouts back down the road and this road was empty and down hill. felt like a 40 an speed just krept up bein down hill.

i got a fpn (fixed penalty notice) for 3 points and 60 quid fine.

i dont like the way they go about it but i was speeding, by quite a bit, and so bit the bullet and didnt contest it. been driving now for bout bout 2.5 years and kept a clean liscence till this about a month ago.

i've just found the fpn in my wallet actually, lol. anyway i've learnt my lesson and now keep a closer eye on my speed. i'm no saint though

does seem a bit harsh though for your mate but then it depends on the road, time of day, conditions, etc.
