Not that much of a pricely sum to pay, all depends on the circumstances and type of road, it must've been 30mph for a reason? I know some dual carriage ways where there are no pedestrians are restricted to 30, which would be harsh to get that sort of punishment.

I'm not saying I stick too all speed limits 100%, times and places certainly like to put foot down - most 30mph round here are built up areas, it is shocking to see just by how much people round here break the 30mph
He must've known he was in a 30mph and chose not to obey it (either there are signs (don't people pay attention to the road signs around them?!) or 'streetlights no sign 29.9' unlucky he got caught, remember kids:

If hit by a car at 40mph, there is a 90% chance the pedestrian will be killed; If hit by a car at 30mph, there is an 80% chance the pedestrian will survive
