Cold YB cosworth running badly and stops -please help
Hi Ford Fans.
I have a problem with my 2wd cossie engine and looking for some advices.
When I start the cold engine it runs into 2000 rpm instantly for 2seconds, than returns to 900rpm for a while and dies. If I push throttle pedal slightly it also stops. I need to push the pedal hardly all the time to keep the engine running. There is no problem to put engine into 4-5k rpm. When the engine is hot it holds about 900rpm anywise.
Engine is standard it has only A-group coil. RS500 fuel pressure regulator. L6 ecu, PF01 black TPS. Spark plugs and fuel pressure are OK.
It has blue 4x4 IW-044 injectors instead of yellow IW-025 ones.
(could I use blue injectors in standard 2wd engine with L6 ecu?)
Does anyone have an idea why my engine runs badly when cold?
Thank you in advance for any help and apologies for my english.
Regards.

This is most likely your problem ... Rear of head on inlet side ... This sensor is known to split ... I changed mine as mine was a bastard when cold ... Different car now
unplug idle speed control valve when cold start should run alright all be it @ lower rpm if fueling is correct, it should slowly increase rpm as engine gets warmer till it has reached it's base idle setting (850rpm) once the engine is at opperating temp plug the idle speed control valve back in , it should make know difference to the rpm.
Sometime the idle speed control stick so making theirs control very sharp ie- open or closed . This can cause engine to stall due to a non progessive valve action.
If the engine does not run properly when started from cold with idle speed control valve unplugged it could be the blue temp sender as stated above or wiring/ chip(fuel cold start map)
Cheers, T

Thanks for help. ISCV is brand new. I'll try with yellow injectors. I also ordered a set of blue and brown temp. sensors -some replacement parts from ebay. Hope it will help.

is your TPS adjusted properly?
I have the same problem - sometimes engine revs up to 2000rpm when start. But not depends of engine temperature - this can be when it cold or warm. My TPS is adjusted to 2 degrees when closed. But I found strange phenomenon - if I see from ECU Pectel Monitor that TPS parameter is more then 5 degrees(6 or more) when ignition is on(engine is not started yet) then revs will be 2000rpm when I start it. Revs can drop down to normal 900rpm whithout any activities from my side after some time, but sometimes I need to unplug ISCV, after that revs drops down and engine runs OK and I see that the TPS parameter dropped to 2-3 degrees as it was adjusted. Then I plug ISCV back and its ok. But I dont understand if this is ISCV problem how ISCV can affect to TPS parameter, I mean why TPS degrees(voltage to ECU) drops when the ISCV is unplugged??? Please help to understand.

This is one problem!
The issue sounds more like a fueling problem, opposed to an idle control problem, as when you open the throttle you are adding extra air (Which is all the ISCV does) so it should raise the idle speed, the fact that it dies suggests it may be a little rich perhaps (Probably caused by the wrong injectors)
I would first change the injectors and go from there as you can't do anything until you have the correct setup to start with!

are you sure that your ISCV BRAND new, not a fake?

The ISCV should not affect the TPS reading, do you have a genuine ISCV or pattern, as having the latter myself they are not any good, they are VAE06 replacements if anything like the one I have and the spring ratings are all wrong so you get a very high idle as a result!

To test this you can just unplug the TPS, as it should be open circuit at idle, this is what the ECU looks for to activate it's idle strategy!

I think genuine.
thanks!
(Assuming 2WD with std management, if L8 ECU then this procedure DOES not apply!)

Then that does not apply then, I suspect you do but you have changed your TPS, along with inverting the outer two wires on the TPS, haven't you?
It may be worth checking your TPS output though, as this will give you some idea as to it's working.
