Hi all,
Small problem... Just changed all the wheel bearings on S2 and all seemed to go back together as planned... Until...
The car isn't running at the mo just FYI (been in a bodyshop the last year having a resto) so just getting all the little bits done at the same time, anyway, changed front and rear wheel bearings and dropped the car on the floor, then tried to roll it forward in the bodyshop. It hardly moved!! A few inches then appear to be stuck solid?!? Any ideas what I've managed to cock up this time, lol.
Cheers

Hey Darren. Always you to the rescue, lol.
To be honest mate, this is where I'm at. I had all the front hubs off, anti roll bar, all shocks out, drums off the back, basically everything you can strip off the underside, and powder coated everything I could. I had to rush it back together as its on a mates ramp (doing it weekends) so had to get it moving so he could have his ramp through the week. As we were running out of time we literally refitted all the shocks, springs, hubs, roll bar etc, enough to be able to bolt the wheels on to push it. I had new drums, cylinders, the lot to go on the back, but as I said, we were outta time so the rear drums are on, but empty at the mo (no shoes no nothing) so can't be them. For the new discs and refurbed calipers back on the front, but again with no pads. Hate rushing and not having enough time!!!
So it can only be the new bearings I think.
When we had it in the air, the front wheels spun, but not to freely... Have the bearings gone in wrong? (but it went together okay so hope not!) The wheels just wouldn't spin nice, but they did turn.

My brother in law was helping me and he went at them with an air gun (blue point one too so it's got some bollox, lol).
I half thought it may be that as I know you have to tighten them to about 220-235nm iirc...
If he has over tightened them, will it have damaged the BRAND NEW and NOT cheap bearings, lol

Looked in the Haynes and its telling me 210-230nm? This is for the front bearings I'm asking about, I know the rears just need to be nipped up, but according to the Haynes the front should really tight. Confused much, lol :-S

Front bearings need to be very tight. Rear bearings need only to be hand tight.
The reason for your problem could be the front bearing race not being pushed home in the hub fully. Or you could have a knackered hub......... I hate front bearings on rs turbos!!!!!
Anyone else have tips on front bearings?

For the front bearings the nut should be tight. The outer race of the bearing needs to be pressed in until it hits the stop in the hub and should be rebuilt with plenty of grease. The rear wheel bearing should be tightened so there is no movement in the wheel but should spin freely when jacked up.also should have plenty of grease in the bearings

As you were rushing, did you put the rear trailing arms back on the right way? If you fit them the wrong way round, the bar will hit on the tyre, causing the wheel to feel seized.
Are the wheels close to the calipers? If so, are you hitting a balancing weight on the caliper itself? Is it stuck in gear?

Thank you for all the advice so far gents, appreciated!!
First thing I'll be doing is jacking it up to see exactly what's moving and what's not... Pain not being able to get to thr car whenever I want as its in my mates bodyshop. Royal pain!
I'll be checking the rear trailing arms, good shout!! Guess I'll asses what's not moving when I can get it up in the air on Wednesday morning, then update again and see what you guys recon. The joys of not bring mechanically trained, lol.
Anyone local to Harlow (where the car is kept) worst case who would come take a look for a drink
