Default Head Gasket Failure?

My FRST hasnt been running that well recently and because I thought it was ignition related I changed the plugs, coil and Distributor cap but this didi not solve the problem. Took the car out for a gental run today and when I got home and checked the oil filler cap I found this.

There is no oil in the header tank and no water in the oil. Is my problem related to the head gasket? I am running a standard Ford RS turbo gasket on a 1905cc block.

The problem I am having is that cylinder number 4 isnt working at about 3K and over. it idles perfectly well and drives normally upto 3k but after that it splutters and sounds like a missfire. I have checked all spark plugs and there is no oil or fuel present. Its not burning any oil at all and there is no smoke of any kind (black or white) leaving the exhaust.

I know I am going to have to take the head off to see whats wrong but for the life of me I can not work this one out.

I am using a Bailey Breather.

Tried that. Still the same unfortunately. The plug is a little sooty.

I havent done one yet although I took it to a local garage and he said he could tell by they way it started up one if the cylinders was low on compression. It sounds the same to me as it always has!!!

I'll check the inlet manifold gasket and see. Now that you mention this as when I usually cover up the free hole on the breather the engine chokes and stalls. Today when I covered up the hole it kept running as normal. Could this be causing the problem then and how would that effect it?

Engine stalls when holes covered up on breather? strange, is there a vacuum from your inlet to the breather?

Sounds like a sticky or semi burnt out valve to me

The sticky valve sounded easy enough to check so I have just taken off the rocker cover put the car in gear and rocked in back and forwards. Exhaust valve on number 4 isnt moving at all. Took out the lifter and tought that the rough bottom edge wasnt right. Well it isnt. Its ground away the cam lobe. I mean its completely flat. I hope you can make it out in the pictures.

Does anyone know what may of caused this? Looks I need like I need a new cam and a set of anti pump lifters.... and an oil change!!

i'd give Karlos a call and ask what potential damage could have been done.

if the lobe is worn away the material will probably be in your sump just waiting to be picked up

Has any one got experience with these cams? Why are the Newman Cams better and which one from their website will be best to use. I suppose that they are only listing one that is suitable ie FORC/276/409T. http://www.newman-cams.com/pdf/ford.pdf

What would be the difference with the one that is quoted to be only suitable for a ZVH? This one is rated up to 7K.

How do you adjust the followers that will have to be bought together with the cam (quote "8 x EN40B Billet Mechanical Cam Followers Easy Adjustment No Shims") as I'll be fitting it myself and then driving up to NMS to get it mapped.
