sorry but anyone dealing in specialist/classiic cars....for an outlay of 6k a 2 k margin doesnt seem unreasonable to me...bear in mind this is a very specialist market...and it being an old rs and the ammount of dickheads the bloke wil have to speak to with ...i would be looking for a margin of around 6k on something like this to allow for the dick head/annoyance factor!
not to mention the time things like this will be in stock before finding a buyer!

he must have the patience of a saint

I appreciate what you are saying what with it being a specialised market, but a would you get a 6k mark up on a 26 year old standard markII escort, no you wouldnt. The guy is out of touch if someone pays that then they are a bampot. Wonder how much the s2 is?

ok donny 6k was an exaggeration i have had a few old fords rs,s and others for sale in my time and found myself tearing my hair out with the sort of clientele *cough* tossers that come to view..hence my comment...and from what you said he is down to a 1k margin on that rs2k you mentiond..which in my eyes isnt even worth handling such a car for the reasons i have stated above

I know that car. Guy from Northern Ireland used to own it, had it up for sale not long ago, so i assume this person has bought it. It was for sale for £10 000 from the NI guy.

It is an absolutely mint car

I think it is you that is out of touch with the world of Classic Fords my friend.

There are a lot of people out there wanting MkII Escorts either to turn into fast road cars or rally cars and mint RS cars are fetching silly money because the demand is high and the supply of proper cars is limited.

And for any business with proper overheads to work on less than 20-30% margin is commercial suicide.

Why are there so many people out there who have no idea about running businesses and the world of business soo quick to comment on how others should run their business and that everyone who has a business must be bastard minted and out to rip everyone off ?

Tell you what Murdo.. give us a clue..... how much should he charge for the escort if he bought it for £5995 ?

Alex anything that goes over £100 on ebay now goes to bidder 1 2 3 4 etc...

have a look for yourself...

Car`s got to be worth 10k with only 4k on the clock IMO would look 1000`s times better if he got rid of that nasty blue decal and put a standerd one back on.

Are you related to him? First of all Neil, the chap who is selling these cars has stated that this is a hobby for him and that he is not in it for the money, so he buys a mark II escort for £5900 then advertises it at £8k

I have stated that everybody needs to make money I have no probem with that, however if this guy continues in the same manner then prices will be driven up so high that genuine enthusiasts like me will not be able to afford them.

I can't see how driving up the prices can be a good thing, unless you're looking to sell. The same thing happened at the end of the Maggies reign, 25K for a Mk1 Lotus Cortina etc only for the values to come crashing back to reality and the fools that parted with huge sums for these motors looking pig sick, I personally think the prices for Mk1's/MkII's are silly at the moment, but 10K for a MkII, na that's just going too far!
By driving up the prices like that eventually people will just buy one and stick it a garage too frightened to risk driving their investment and loosing their 20K in the process, that'll be a sad development in my eyes.

This guy, he's only driving up the prices of RSs in his own forecourt with absolutely no added value. It isnt good, in fact i think its pretty greedy and quite sad.

I certainly wouldnt buy anthing from him, on the basis that he adds £2000 to a car's price for the value of a £100 warranty. bargain.not.

In answer to your original question which you so eloqeuntly asked, What should he sell the car for? Well, I dont know what his turnover is but for me a reasonable return, and a decent profit margin would be 1k.

What do you think Neil? How much would you want for it?

First of all he's a car dealer and has a show room full of cars, now all the time they sit there they are costing him money.

I dont think he's far off the mark with his prices, the RS Turbos seem fair for dealer prices as does his Escort Cossie and 3 Door.

And how many places in the UK can you go and look at 4 decent MkII Escorts in one place and make your choice... not many I can tell you.

What you seem knarked about is the fact that you can no longer afford an Escort... but thats just the law of economics...

This fella isnt driving up the price of the cars, the enthusiasts and more over the Irish Rally boys are pushing the prices sky high.

If you want to be angry at anyone be angry at Rally people.

There was a bloke on the Isle of Mull Rally this year binned a MkII, but he wasnt that bothered because he had another mint shell waiting at home.

If you are going to spunk £40k building a rally car whats another couple of grand on the price of a good shell ?

Plus if you've ever been to any of the Old School meets at the Ace Cafe or Boxhill you will see that there is such a buzz for Old School stuff, my Anglia stands me in at nearly £4k more than my 3 door...

Remember, these are screen prices aswell... and who goes into a dealer and pays screen price ?

So by the time you've waved your wad at him and chipped £500 off him, then I wouldnt begrudge the bloke a £1500 profit on the car, especially as he's warranting it for 3 months too.

You could easily spunk £500 driving round the country looking at shitters that people advertise as mint and arent.

Sometimes you just have to pay the money.

For the record, pukka Group 4 Mk2 Escort Rally Cars are changing hands for circa £50k plus.

A rot free Mk2 2 door shell (JUST the shell) is worth as much as £2k to the rally prep' boys to fabricate into a Group 4 shell.

So how much is a good standard Mk2 RS 2000 worth?
Well ask yourself this, when was the last time you even saw a Mk2 RS2000? let alone a genuine rot free unmolested example like you can buy from Days of Grace?

Some really nice cars there, if the better half would allow, I'd already be on the phone!

You probably won't believe this I saw a standard RS2k, Mk2 this afternoon, nearly fell over they are so rare!

thanks people

just to let you know, we always give heavy discounts for rs owners members, if you take a look we have a series 2 absolutly mint white rs turbo advertised at £4995. You will also see it is available for £4000 to rs owners club members just as an example and to let you know that the same applies for members of passion ford. Thanks for the welcome boys.

PS i will show a copy of the apologie form donny murco below.

Hi Steve,

I can only apologise for the ill judged selection of the word "weasel".
In reply to your question, no I do not know you. Therefore the use of the word "weasel" was inappropriate.
With the benefit of hindsight it was unfounded and was a personal slur and because of your obvious discontent I apologise. I did not mean to cause you any unnecessary distress.
It was made hastily, I can, if you wish withdraw the word "weasel" so as not to affect your future interests.

I hope you can forgive this shortcoming and recognise my genuine regret.

However the views expressed in the post are upheld for the reason that this is a public access forum for people to express and share views and opinions. Regardless whether you like them or not.

Thanks

Thanks for getting back to me, I understand your position you are running a buisness. But in all honesty £6000.00 is as much as I can afford. I am sure you will have no problem selling it. It was worth a try!

Thanks very much

All the best

Kenny

Hi Donny

No worries mate

First of all I dont know why you feel the need to post private messages on this forum, they are meant to be PRIVATE after all I have been looking for a new car for a while now, and yes I was looking at the red RS2K you have, and a black RS2K on here and an RS1600 and quite a few others as well, I have decided that I will not purchase the one you are selling, thats my perogative.Nor will I purchase the black one or the 1600i. I didnt call you because I cant justify the money you want to buy the car, hence I didnt want to waste your time.

Now you sent me a PRIVATE message saying do you know me etc, I genuinely apologised for calling you a weasel which you seemed perturbed about. I take it thats not enough for you, so you post the apology I sent you on this thread For what purpose?

Then you post a PRIVATE MESSAGE I sent you on another forum to find out how much you were looking for the car.

Dont get me wrong I have nothing to hide, but I wouldnt post pm's on a PA forum regardless of there nature. The thing which is bothering you is I expressed an opinion which you are unhappy with, so you post my pm's I retract my apology you are a weasel

as i said donny if you have a problem come and see me face to face and air it.

people are to opinionated and hide behind there PC's talking about things the dont know, Your crap you wrote on here about us isnt justified as proved by us offering you that car for £200 extra to what we paid.

We didnt have no idea that you was on here slagging us off about how much money we make which is obviously a complete load of shit as we offered you that car for a measly £200 profit.

all im saying is dont pipe off about people or things going on that you have no right to do so without knowing the facts 100 %.

Im getting bored now,

all im saying is dont pipe off about people or things going on that you have no right to do so without knowing the facts 100 %.
I have a right to comment on whatever I see fit to chap.
You had the car up for 8k just after you bought it I contacted you to see how much you wanted for it, you said you would let it go for £6200.00, fair play the car is a cracker and will sell no problem. Just not to me the fact that I expressed an opinion in the first instance about the inflatory price rise is what is bothering you, if you cant deal with it, tough.

I apologised for calling you a weasel you posted a private message up here which has pissed me off making me think you are a weasel .I am hiding behind nothing if you have a problem with me I would like to sort it out , I will say what I like chap whether you like it or not, this is a disussion forum, I offered you an apology which you posted on here if thats not enough then you can jog on.

This is the end

This is doing you no favours and I will not post on this thread again, end of.

That car was for sale here for £10 000. I don't know what it went for but i'd say it would have been close to the asking fugure.
