Ebay GT30 turbos
On this build I'm going to do ..I'm either wanting to go GT30 or T34 or may push the boat out and just go for a borgwarner. .probably over kill if I did ..but heard great things about them ..anyway back to the GT30 ..I stuck gt30 in Google to get a rough idea and up came ebay with tons of them new from £130-£200 . What's crack ..are they really that cheap ..or is it a scam or owt .
Cheers Mat

your going to get a lot of pro Garret/Borg warner etc etc but i have first hand have 3 of these so call cheap turbos, and my friend has 1 .
i had a cheap gt28 turbo on my mps 2.3 turbo cost 139 from maxspeeding rods 2 years ago and its now done 14k at 20psi boost and get used hard.
my old cossie which had a gt30 type non roller bearing turbo from maxspeeding rods has done at least 9000 miles on and running 25psi is still going strong as my friend has it. and my current cossie has a t35 type one again from maxspeedingrods and has done 3k so far at 26psi. i also have a gt30 type one on my mk2 cossie engine but its only done mapping mileage so not really tested.
ive yet to blow one or have oil seals go and to be fair you goto all the jap boys they swear by them also.

cheap chinese copies mat - will struggle to hold 1bar of boost.
or so i thought until my mate bought a gt35 from ebay and he said it was genuine and arrived in a garrett box (he is a mechanic so does know what he is talking about). His car made over 450bhp at 2 bar so im guessing the one he bought was alright - he says there are more on there so he can get them anytime.
Its a gamble but one that may be worth going for if you can get the same as above
Ive asked for a link as thinking of getting one myself
Edit to add the new one my mate bought was a non-roller bearing gt35

You get what u pay for at the end of the day a local lad has one on a Vauxhall z20let, it makes the power but smokes badly and uses loads of oil, also the power band is 5500-6500, pretty rubbish really and that's with a decent well known mapper.another mate had one on a slightly modded cvh and that was similar, mental lag.
I've had genuine t4, gt30 and now borg Warner on my Cossie and the Borg Warner is worth the extra money even on an old l8 ecu it's awesome.

cobblers, ive run a t3/t4 with 0.63 turbine housing and it was very similar in spool and power to a t34 on 0.63, that's my first hand experience of owning and using one.
ive got gt30s on my vr38 and I wouldn't change them to cheapos but to say there laggy useless rubbish is simply not true

Not wanting to be a pain, but seeing the power level you mentioned, would a GT30 be overkill? I would of thought a GT28 would be enough for 300odd bhp? Or do you want potentially more in the future?

I won't be buying a cheap GT30 if I go the GT30 route ..as ill be wanting a roller bearing one if anything else ..
No Gt30 would be fine for 350hp. Without running it balls out ..plus leaving me scope for the future .

Just because it'scheap doesn't mean there crap, here is example , Hart inlets are a lot more than aautospecialist inlet so I take it AS inlet is not as good ? I've heard people saying it's better , how can it be it's cheaper , both made in China I'm sure, how about injectors Grey's are double the price of Lucas/Siemens injectors??

Happily retired
The levels that people go too to convince there selves you don't get what you pay for.
If you don't have money you buy this cheap 35 & you get what you get if you have the money a Borg is simple Black/White better. Just accept that but don't kid yourself that this is anything more than a cheap copy.
We hear all this talk about lag thats mainly the Spec of the engines the Turbo is used on. If you follow well trodden routes laid down in 1990 you will end up with an engine that drives as it did back then. Many on here cannot be told that some Tuners have moved on in the last 25 years. Its expensive so not for most so enjoy what you can afford. A Ferrari owner will not buy a kitcar copy.

It will be going on a 2.1 zetec ..in a Rs turbo... I'm really liking the borg twin scroll if I can get one to suit the engine ...as I'm wanting to build a car thats around 300 350 or a little more if that's how it ends up with good drivability. .something I can take the Mrs up the coast ..then nip to the odd track day .

im considering buying one of these kits dependant on space for a possible conversion on my 440 ci dodge v8 that's low comp in stock form about 7.8-1 it would seem
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/T04-63AR-5...item2ee037bb88
or if space allows this
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/T04E-9PC-T...item2c653a9abf
im thinking the internal gate setup with nose mounted turbos will fit best and have a better chance of the wastegate dumping pressure to maintain 8 psi max.

my mrs would never let me take her 'up the coast' in one , far too uncomfortable for her

And don't ask me why I'm building a rs turbo as I don't know why either .. just been itching for another for years.. no doubt I'll end up having a cossie at the side of it .and be double arsing myself ::

the lack of powersteering
the windows always being fogged (and pathetic heaters with no air con)
the crashy bumpy ride
the rattles from everywhere
the radio that doesnt work
the fact theres an art to starting them on a cold morning
that it could get nicked with a spoon
the brakes/ABS that wont stop you when you really need too
the rust.........

and i speak from experience, as in 2012 i thought i'd buy another.....and it wasn't a particularly bad one, looked awesome, sounded great....its just the rest of the car is pretty poor by modern standards.
never go back......unless its to a cossie
they are appreciating though so as long as you get a nice one it'll be a sound investment, need £5k min for a nice RST these days though.
