No timing marks Danny - you need a locking pin set
Lock the crank using the pin in the hole on the front of the block (remove a plug to get it in here)
Lock the fuel pump pully with another pin
remove camcover and lock the cam with the locating bar at the rear of the engine in the groove on the cam

if i were at work id look on autodata but im not so i cant
if ya can find tdc, position the cam by the position of the lobes ie rocking valves on no 4 but as for pump mate i am sure they are pinned on the 1.8td's

you dont need pins use an allen key that fits in the hole...
there is a hole in the top pulley between the 4 bolts that holds it on and there is a hole in the block ust above the alternator stick an allen key in there and try turning it over manually to make sure its locked then go for it

Reason i ask is me an a mate have just done the fuel system on his vauxhall vivaro (new injectors, pump, fuel lines, cleaned tank etc etc) because his old pump put swarf everywhere when it died.
We can't get it started since and the timing of the pump thing is worrying me as we never timed the pump up. Although there was no way of doing this (no marks etc) and the drive wheel for the pump isn't keyed to the pump shaft. It's got a rail that's fed by the pump and then the rail feeds the injectors, just thought it won't make any difference where the drive position is.
Danny@RADesigns - sorry for the hijack

when youve finished turn the engine by hand at least two complete revs...if your one tooth out you can fook it up...you can use allen keys but they must fit fairly tightly...the pin set is only cheap though you get the whole set does trany's as well ...less than 20 quid
