I think it is you that is out of touch with the world of Classic Fords my friend.

There are a lot of people out there wanting MkII Escorts either to turn into fast road cars or rally cars and mint RS cars are fetching silly money because the demand is high and the supply of proper cars is limited.

And for any business with proper overheads to work on less than 20-30% margin is commercial suicide.

Why are there so many people out there who have no idea about running businesses and the world of business soo quick to comment on how others should run their business and that everyone who has a business must be bastard minted and out to rip everyone off ?

Tell you what Murdo.. give us a clue..... how much should he charge for the escort if he bought it for £5995 ?

Are you related to him? First of all Neil, the chap who is selling these cars has stated that this is a hobby for him and that he is not in it for the money, so he buys a mark II escort for £5900 then advertises it at £8k

I have stated that everybody needs to make money I have no probem with that, however if this guy continues in the same manner then prices will be driven up so high that genuine enthusiasts like me will not be able to afford them.

I can't see how driving up the prices can be a good thing, unless you're looking to sell. The same thing happened at the end of the Maggies reign, 25K for a Mk1 Lotus Cortina etc only for the values to come crashing back to reality and the fools that parted with huge sums for these motors looking pig sick, I personally think the prices for Mk1's/MkII's are silly at the moment, but 10K for a MkII, na that's just going too far!
By driving up the prices like that eventually people will just buy one and stick it a garage too frightened to risk driving their investment and loosing their 20K in the process, that'll be a sad development in my eyes.

This guy, he's only driving up the prices of RSs in his own forecourt with absolutely no added value. It isnt good, in fact i think its pretty greedy and quite sad.

I certainly wouldnt buy anthing from him, on the basis that he adds £2000 to a car's price for the value of a £100 warranty. bargain.not.

In answer to your original question which you so eloqeuntly asked, What should he sell the car for? Well, I dont know what his turnover is but for me a reasonable return, and a decent profit margin would be 1k.

What do you think Neil? How much would you want for it?
