correct me if im wrong, but ...
if you fit a pectel board and chip in say a p8 ecu,it will allow the use of coilpack, water injection antilag etc ect(as long as the chip is programmed to do it), but this is all part of the software that is on the chip, and the only reason is needs the pectel board is becasue the pectel sofware needs it to de-crypt the chip so it works ...
the p8 though has the hardware on board already does it not , to allow coilpack use through its second ignition driver circuit and the pectel software just switches it on, so is the same possible when using the marelli boards when using the marelli software (like stu) to program the chip to use the extra ignition driver , OR does the 'P' in P8 signify pectel, as in it was developed by pectel so only thier software can enable all the features....
im just a lil confused as if it is only the software on the chip which determines the functions of the ecu (hardware dependand) surely any software would be able to utilise the hardware, OR does the marelli software only allow you to change the actual mapping and/or load points of boost, fuel, ignition etc ect
what sparked this off was i found a bike site http://www.sigmaperformance.com/weber.html
which says"The P8 followed, this had some useful additional features, such as the ability to fire individual injectors on one cylinder at different times"
any mapping people feel free and join in,

This might have been better in the general discussion area!
I am pretty sure P8 has nothing at all to do with Pectel.
I know of 1 Cossie running a coil pack and ALS with no SECS or Pectel board.

its the any board thas put in p8 that gives it the ability to run a coilpack, there are no extra boards in P8 as std other than the motherboard, the ability is in the actual operating systems of the ecu, good luck in finding it tho !! just as an example, if you could download the software and print it, you would need approx 250-300 pages of a4 paper to just read the operating system before you even think about the eeprom an sit would prob look something like this for the whole 300 pages 00000011111001101110100101010101010111111111111111 00000000001110011110000000011111111111111111000000 00000000111111111001111010110101010101111111111111 11101010101010100000000011111100111011011111010101 01001010010101101101010010101010101011010100
so really all you gotta do is find the correct '0' and change it to a '1' simple really
tbh i could tell you about things that i KNOW P8 will do, but i cant even find the byte changes even tho i know it will do it

markk:
so does the marelli software not give you full access to to these features then, even though it the ecu manufactures own software?

it certainly does pal
, but there are aspects of what weve mentioned above that are on the software not the hardware m8

so the marelli software was never written to perfrom such things as WI, ALS etc?
the only thing i dont understand is that they are all extra subroutines i'd say, the extra coil output on a p8 for example is phically there and is seems strange that the software doent take this into account, i can understand on older (L1,6,8etc) ecus as it wasnt there, but if the marelli software cant access it, it seems a bit odd, i take it there are differnet revisions of software under which different features would be apparent as they appeared on the hardware, i just understand that using the marelli software on a marelli ecu, you cant have access to all the features of the hardware,?
so markk, if u dont midn me asking, how are you running a p8 with coilpack(ie 2 ignition drivers) without the pectel software or secs driver, how easy is this and do you have to sacrafice anything in order to get there..?

what you are forgetting/dont know is that this ecu has been around for a long long time m8, and used in way more applications than you could even believe, ducati Vtwin motorbike, ferrarri F series and many many more , there fore it has teh ability to lend its hand to many differant types of ignition/injection types, its just knowing how to acces/make use of what its got, and yes there are many revisions of the same type, its a case of whether the person who maps your car knows what there doing with it. alot of the times that the differant functions are put on to the ecu are via a basic intercetion board which will change the signals accordingly on the way out of the eeprom not making use of whats already in the eeprom/os
alot of people dont believe that i have so many of teh functions on a std board without and extra boards, but tbh my mapper has spent a hell of a lot of time researching/trialing experimenting on the things i have to make sure a, they do actual do what t here supposed to do, and b, more important to me is that there reliable

so when you say your mapper has spent a lot of time on it( i assume you mean stu @msd...?)
i think i get what you mean abuot the extra functions, hence sometimes it is easier to start from scratch and write your own software rather than spending the time to reverse engineer the standard stuff, ie why pectel wrote their own software to allow certain other functionality that cuold not easilly be found using the oem stuff...?
so is your p8 running coilpack with no extra boards a msd secret for the time being..? does it have the features stu mentions about the secs board, like the active dwell and stuff.?
