Fiesta Mk4 Clutch Issues
Hi all.
I'm new here
I need a little bit of advice on my clutch.
Its a mk4 fiesta with the 1.25 zetec engine.
My clutch is very high, but its not slipping at all, tested by using a higher gear at low speed and accelerating.
I've noticed that the first 2-3 inches you press the clutch pedal down that it feels spongy before any pressue is resistance is behind it.
Also, when my car is idling, I can hear a whirling sort of sound inside the car, but it dissapears when I press the clutch down.
And also, on the odd occasion, when changing down gears, it can be a little tricky to get it iinto first gear, doesnt happen often, but it happens, It's very stiff but can be pushed in if pushed a little firmer.
Any idea what the problems could be?
Thanks in advanced.
Jason

Bump?
I know the noise is the clutch bearings now.
I think there may be a leak somewhere, where I am unsure.
Could that right?
Could a leak let air into the system and make the clutch feel soft/spongy like I am experiencing?
Cheers, Jason

Hmm, yeh the whirring is the slave cylinder / clutch release bearing.
If it was leakig you more than likely would have lost the pedal to the floor by now. It may have a small amount of air in there....would be worth a quick bleed imo.

Defiently worth a bleed as it sounds as if you have air in there, usually the clutch at the top means the plate is near end of life. Sometimes you may notice problems with the braking as well, as that shares the same fluid.

try bleeding it a little for any air locks and see how you get on the whirring noise would mean slave cylinder, if get chance whip gearbox off and change as very cheap to replace, but whilst you there worth considering changing clutch as you can get full kit cheap enough

isn t a fiesta cable clutch??? my mark 3 was cable so i guess a mark4 is is cable too since they use same gearbox and if i m right and it s cable, the rachet on the pedal which is the self adjust is nearing the limit which in turn means clutch is worn the noise is the bearing and if the pedal feels sticky and spongy get yourself a new cable too as the cable is sealed and cannot be oiled for the clutch i think you d better buy a kit (clutch pressure plate and bearing)
