Ah right, the ford item is like a cup that hangs from 2 bolt holes on the front of block and shield the rear end of the motor. I'm not sure what its made of but they are quite brittle especially when they are old.

I found one on a car at the scrappy a few weeks ago, i'll get a picture for you tomorrow

try the coolant temp sensor. if the starter and battery are fine then it sounds like the temp sender is playing up, telling the ecu that the engine is cold, and therefore the ecu is starting it up in coldstart mode. ive had this problem before on my zetec engined mk2, be worth changing the sender for the sake of a few quid!

mine would never start once warm, but would chug into life if i disconnected an injector.....then would run fine with it reconnected with the engine running! odd one!

i will have to check the coolant temp sensor then, would that have anything to do with the sensor that makes the fan cut in cos the fan cuts in fine! not having much luck with the car today, just changed the handbrake warning light switch cos it was staying on all the time, then it still didnt work! car turned out to be low on brake fluid!!! the really annoying thing is i spent my last spare tenner on the switch!!!

in the haynes manual it says the coolant temp sensor is on the inlet manifold? is that right, if its the blue connector mine is mounted on the side of the head with coolant pipes running past it? does this sound right?

The CTS is in the back of the inlet manifold, has the same plug as the fan switch but its white not blue

Shame about the switch Worth posting about things like that next time, i now how annoying it is to buy un-needed parts

cheers for that, i know where that white one is now, i remember putting it back on after i changed the head gasket! i feel like by the time i get this car on the road i will know it inside out which is quite good, so far i have changed head gasket, camshaft oil seal as i didnt realise that was gone and thought it was the head gasket so stripped the head off then noticed the oil seal had popped out and a cv boot! as well as a new starter motor, i do love the cvh engine though, so easy to work on!!

The CVH engine is very easy to work on its just a shame the top ends are so shit on them The major in them

Its good to get to know your own car, at least you have the piece of mind knowing its all ok

Cooling fans are easy mate, identify whether you have power, and if you do, bridge the switch plug, simple process of elimination. Don't let the machine win

And out come the exscuses

When theyre getting old sometimes pulling the plug breaks them if the contacts have corroded or anything.

Ah right, sorry forgot about that, that is the seal yes. Might just be a shit seal, they should be tight to fit, if it pushes in easy then obvio it will come back out easy

yeah thats what i figured, thanks for all ur help over the last few weeks and i think it has paid off cos i am fairly confident over it being ready for mot, i am going to take it down next sat am for judgement day! the chip in the windscreen has been repaired, the cv boot is done, brake warning light is sorted now i topped up the brake fluid all that i think might cause a problem is when it doesnt always start when warm but if i have to start it off a starter pack i cant see them having a problem with that!! atleast i hope they wont!

How else would you get a 405 in a magazine (short of setting it on fire anyway)
