Default capri, modernisation! mt75

I have a 30 year old capri and I want to make it a good all rounder for everyday use
powerful 180 to 210 hp
Mpg
Comfortable
So first thing is I want to get an audi tdi engine but dont know what gearbox to use, im thinking mt75 from a transit but I want to use a 6 speed
Anyone know if the 5 and 6 speeds have the same size case?
Ill it fit under a capri without cutting the tunnel?

Or any other suggestions? I have the the whole audi so have the bell housing that can be grafted to the front of the box

Don't do it, restore it or sell it to someone who won't ruin it with a tdi conversion. Just my opinion

When I got it last year it was original except someone put a mk2 interior in it

I want it usable everyday, if it was a rear car I wouldnt think of doing it

It was a 1600 laser and I put a 2000 pinto in with a janspeed 4 branch manifold and 40mm bike carbs but its not practical for a daily driver even worse when standard

The 1.9 tdi is a very good engine, im not keen on the 2ltr

The mt75 transit boxes are very different to the sierra versions and will be the fwd mtx75 versions if they have 6 speeds

If you insist on going diesel why not just buy an old 1.8td sierra engine and box plus a focus tddi engine and swap over all bits you'll need
Personally it goes against everything capri's are ment to be

on a side note someone does actually make a bell housing to suit audi tdi to type 9 conversions

The trasnit bix has a different bellhousing and is cable operated so while it may work, its going to be a lot if hassle

Good luck with it if you do decide to go ahead with it

I have an a3 with the engine type I want and all I has is a mild remap and st170s cant touch it and the torque I dont think a type 9 would last too long.

Ive had a tdci and 2 tddis and I dont like them. I would be nice to keep it all ford but i think the best way of keeping it ford is with the st170

As gay as it sounds I need the mpg to use it for work

HI

I would look at using an Audi or passat quattro box then changing the centre to diff to run RWD only.

I think this would be a great conversion to do to a capri. Thinking out of the box there my friend

An ST170 couldn't catch a cold, never mind anything else with wheels.

I personally wouldn't bother. If you want better economy why not keep with what is already there and LPG it? I bet you would never make back in fuel saving what it would cost to convert to diesel.

Why not use a BMW straight 6 diesel?

Plenty of room under a Capri bonnet and they come with a RWD gearbox.

Had my Capri as my first car and loved it but wanted to bring it up to date a bit as the 2.0 pinto was getting hard work, I put a t5 box and a stage 3 Sierra Cosworth engine, reliable and still get 30mpg. Goes very well and all the parts used are ford not spoilt by a foreign engine, iv modernised it a bit more now, closed loop, coilpack, 55. Lbs injectors, as up to date as a Capri can be. Save time with trying to get a modern fwd engine to fit.

Don't put a diesel in a Capri!
If you must do it at least use a nice 6 cylinder diesel all the good Capris were more than 4 cylinder.

Brakes would be my first upgrade on any Capri they were shockingly bad even back in those days hate to think what they'd feel like now?

diesel capri is probably the worst idea ever, a guy in sweden installed a tdi engine in one.ruined the car just because of the sound and smell.

if you want a reliable fast and almost economical capri i would look at some modern engine, zetec, duratec if you want 4 cylinder and m50/m52 bmw engine if you need a 6 cylinder. m50b25 is 192 ps straight out of the box and there are plenty around of them.
