Sharm El Shaykh - would kinda stay away from there these days, forget child-safe it's not Adult-safe!!....but the Nile tours and Luxor are fantastic. People either *love* it or *hate* it. But more people love it though. You'll have a good time.

not if you go to the capital Cairo!

I went there a couple of years back for a weekend visit while i was in cyprus. Its the sh*thole of the world.

But i've been told its lovely in the south of Egypt tho - very good for diving

I really do not recommend it for children if your going to visit tombs or museums and do tours! Plus in cairo you used to have an armed guard escort the tour buses (dont know if thats the case know tho?)

Cairo was the exact reason I went (lucky it was just 2 days!). I dunno I just guessed that the capital would be the best bit to start with which certainly wasnt the case!

But like i say, south of egypt sounds very nice from the people that have told me about it

My mum and Dad went last year for a couple of days from Cyprus, once they arrived by boat to Eygpt they were hurried on to coaches, there were about 5 in total, each coach had an armed guard, pluse police convoy, the coach never stopped at all, went through all the red lights, my parants even told me some locals car got into the middle of the convoy somehow and a police car physicaly forced it off the road. other than that they had a good time.

Went to Egypt Dec 2004 to Sharm el Sheik and it was blinding. Best time to go is about now as it's not too hot - mid to low 20s.

The people trying to sell you crap every time you step out of the hotel really gets annoying though. You can't walk down the street without them constantly standing in front of you and pestering you.

However, the food and drink is cheap and if you're into diving its a must.

Stupidity, political mumbo-jumbo. We actually have that stamped in our passports along with a couple of other countries. Otherwise, you get a world of hurt once you reenter the USA.

USA isn't fond of Fidel Castro's communistic regime.

They reallowed it for a while, then Bush (that mo'fo evil bastard) stopped it.

I was in Sharm for a fortnight during July 2004!

Going back there for a week in March!

You do not need to go in the water to see 18" parrot fish.........

Ł25 for a full days diving.........

A meal out including drinks Ł10.............

I did a few days in Egypt after doing a ferry crossing from Cyprus.

I really enjoyed it, even if there is depressingly bad poverty, and someone trying to sell you something on every corner.

However, the Egyptology museum was awesome as I love that stuff, and visiting the pyramids on camel-back was quality!

I have been on a nle cruise.. couple of years back, its the only place of all my hols i WILL go back to... brilliant... the people (employees on boat and tours) are so hospitable, they really make it known how glad they are you have visited and go outof their way to make you comfortable... but not sure its 7 year old friendly... unless he has bee studying king tut etc at school, if he hasnt, wait till he does he will love it

though I should say we went in May which is when it starts to get really hot...

it was 55 degrees c on one tour .. far too hot really was hard work ...mind you I did come back looking like an egyptian myself rofl

I didn't rate Cairo at all...

Done the touristy things like the Musuem, Pyramids, cruise down the nile, etc. In fact at the Pyramids there were some women and kids crying due to the hard sell tactics of some of the locals ... even the local police wanted money to take pictures of us

If your looking for an eye opener then try somewhere like Malaysia, Borneo. Been there a few times and loved it

@ martinmace, I only mentioned Disney World as its very child/family friendly and being from Britian you'll get a very good exchange rate on the Dollar,so the holiday wont be as expensive as you may think. There is a Disney theme park in Florida and Califonia,(I'm ignoring the paris one as the french people can be hard work too )take youre pick.Plus there's loads of info on the web.Hope you and youre family have a great holiday no matter where you go Regards Micky

Yes, but Florida is so charver!! What next, Grand Carneria? Bloody hell...where's the flippin culture in that? Might as well wait for a sunny day and go to Alton Tours or Great American Adventure while your at it. The queues won't be as long and save the airfare. Everyone who goes there says they spent most of the time in some queue or other.

Mate, you will love either Cuba or Egypt. Yes, Egypt has a lot of poor in it, but they do treat you nice and you will never forget your visit - so much to see and do.

I visited many cities in Egypt in September 2004 (Cairo, Aswan, Esna, Hurgada, Luxor to name but a few). It truely is an awsome Country to visit and I recommend it to anyone who likes to take in & learn new information.
However, I would say that no where I visited was what you'd call 'child friendly'. A holiday in Egypt would be wasted on a child, it would almost certainly be too hot for a child to cope with, and it IS a dangerous Country, where you must have your wits about you 90% of the time (esp females) it wouldn't be much of a holiday for you if you're constantly looking out for yourself AND your kid/s.

Personally I'd avoid DM- a friend and his missus were both robbed at knife point whilst laying on the beach!

My parents used to have a place in Antigua which is really nice. I stayed in the moon palace in Cancun last yr, definitely recommend it, it was the shizzle!
