Zetec turbo build ( first engine build)
Hi,
I'm looking at building a zetec turbo and was wondering if any one could give a list of what parts are needed, and any general advice as it is my first engine build

Nowt wrong with a mk4, I had one as my first car, dropped it 60mm on some Capri Lasers, stuck a cone filter on it and loved it before promptly stacking it in the side of a van.
Pretty sure the principle is the same in terms of mounting a 2.0 in it though, which that thread shows you.

keep it simple and it will be reliable.
id do like this because you will always want more.
2.0l blacktop engine
forged pistons and steel rods with a comp ratio of around 8-1.
bog standard head and cams but with some uprated valve springs
standard head bolts and gaskets pulleys and flywheel
standard sump
you could keep the standard focus/ mondeo inlet to a point or fit a better one
custom exhaust manifold
turbo of your choice but id go for a t34 there cheap and good upto 380hp
with it being a fiesta fit a swirle pot in the boot use the in tank pump to feed it then a 044 pump to the fuel rail.
injectors id go for vxr ones good for 350hp and there only about Ł80 new.(bigger if you want more power)
gearbox
id use a focus rs box with atb diff
clutch id use the focus rs one
custom shafts
management of your choice.

what is your budget?
just stripping my zetec turbo, the costs will spiral if you don't budget and plan ahead big time.
what management are you going for?
what gearbox are you using, as this will determine clutch.
300bhp is quite a lot, i'm not sure what mine has done power wise, but just short of 2BAR through a gt30 must be heading towards 400bhp and is too much for anything other than a strip or trackdays.

in my build i use wiseco piston, got them from the states with eagle rods, went for 86mm ones and had the bores opened up in a blacktop engine.
with shells and things, they were cheaper than over here, but i did get stung for import tax.
i'd plan on a grand for pistons and shells, Ł100 for boring maybe.
that will take over 500bhp without problems, oil pump will be the next weak link though.

definitely decide on budget, a grand and a half in the engine alone, manifolds, injectors and a turbo and you're on Ł2500 pretty quick, management could be as little as Ł500.
clutch could be cheap, but again depends on box, frs are very strong, gary and myself used these at some point, but another Ł600 ish for one, plus fitting parts.
