Default Ford Focus Mk2 rear brake light/sidelight problem

Noticed today that one of my rear break lights was a little dim, upon further investigation I noticed that when I press the brake pedal with the sidelights on the sidelight on the same sude goes off. Anyone else had this problem?? Thanks

Probably a bad earth. Check and clean the earth for the tail lights.

The mk1 suffers a similar issue. Easily cured by replacing the brake light bulb holder. Only about Ł6 from Ford so a simple fix. Might be worth trying on a mk2 as the symptoms are indenticsl

I'm going to do just that, will call in the local car breakers tomorrow see if I can get hold of one as the ones I've seen on ebay etc are 10-15 quid

Either that or you have the wrong bulb in there, or its failed and its shorting across the 2 pins. I would change both the bulbs first and see if that cures it.

Yep defo change the bulbs first. I seem to remember I had a similar issue with my old Mk2 Focus, and it was because I'd put the wrong bulb in even though halfords sold it to me as being the correct one!

EBay ones are over priced. Try Ford first, no point in replacing a potentially failed electrical component with another 2nd hand part that may have the same fault
