Default Escort MK3 performance Mods

Hi all, own a 1984 Ford Escort MK3 (4door) currently running stock everything. Are there any performance mods I could do to give it a bit more power? Carb setup? Cam? Head?

Greetings from South Africa
Edit: 1600 CVH

You don't say which engine you're starting with...

If you want to stick with N/A, then gasflowed head, decent ex.manifold + system, throttle bodies and a cam to suit should get you a good improvement. You could also go as far as to blueprint the bottom end and do things like lightened flywheel.

Most people just slap an RST lump in which has far more scope for big power. But trying to extract something out the N/A can be a bit more interesting....

I appreciate the feedback. I was considering sending it in for gasflow. As for the manifolds and systems. I'll have to save up for that.

Obviously you've hinted you want to stay with the CVH, but if you can find a 1.8/2.0 Zetec then thats a fairly straight forward conversion and will get you a solid increase with far more tuning capability (in both N/A and turbo form). Silvertop is less messing around but they are getting a bit thin on the ground these days.

You could definitely source an entire Zetec engine for less than a proper gasflow job tho - so something to think about

Thing is, the Zetec is Feul Injection right? So I'll have to do ECU setup and transmission setup. For me at this stage I can't afford doing a whole conversion on the car. It's my daily/project. And to be honest, I'm probably one of the few that really enjoy the CVH engines. Think I'll take up your advice to do mods like gasflowing and Cam's.
