535d's do need the swirl flaps done. I had mine sorted. Mine is on an 06 plate. HUD is an optional extra. Mine has it. Its pukka. I seldom look at the speedo now.

I'm seriously considering a later E60 had been looking at the 535d but finding a later 08 onwards thats fully loaded with lower miles is proving aukward. So most likely going to be a 530d.
Can anyone tell me what the change was that happened around 57plates which takes power from 218bhp to 235bhp.
Also do these 57(ish) onward cars need the swirlflaps done too? Do the 535D's need swirlflaps done.
Also the heads up display; i've seen on clips on youtube where info is displayed on the windscreen, is this an option? or simply a setting. Any other info and advice appreciated.

Hi mate,

the 57 reg onwards came with the slightly more powerful engine, funny looking gearbox shifter (auto), slightly better eco wise and LED lighting on the rear.

Ive had mine around a month now, the swirl flaps are getting done by PMW in chelmsford (£185 max supply and fit). Keep an eye on engine temps, if the car fails to warm up in the 'correct' temperature it will fail to regenerate itself. This can be a simple fix if its the EGR thermostat (£36 quid from Bmw) and piece of piss to fit yourself. The main engine stat can be alittle fiddly so i'm getting this done by PMW ltd (around £220, supplied and fitted along with new coolant supplied and fitted).

Supposedly the design of the swirl flaps were revised on these models but the price of getting them removed aint much so well worth doing for piece of mind.

thanks for that lads, appreciated I should have said I'm after an auto preferably with steptronic. Dave I did notice the difference in the gear selector and read somewhere that it's a revised gearbox too? can anyone shed any light on that?
So the HUD! would that be part of the visibility package Rich?

Its an optional extra so not part of the visibility pack. That pack is to do with lights. Xenon. High beam assist and the likes

LCi or Pre LCi you cant go wrong with them. Buy a well looked after example with service book up-to-date. Mine was one owner 57k and cost me £12,000. 06 so pre LCi. Had it mapped by Chip with the evolutions software a few months back. Is it really a diesel lol Love it

The later lci gearbox is an improvement over the early box. I never use the HUD I find it abit of a distraction.

A great thread indeed . i have just joined the forum after finding it on the net as im looking for the same type of bmw 530d touring, preferably the manual, the same as Minirotty . i have a budget of 5k , i know that its an old thread now but im hoping it should be easier to find a good one now as approx 9 months have passed since Minirotty started this very informative thread, any further advice would be appreciated , i wonder if Minirotty is thinking of selling his ? mmmmm

ive currently got a volvo c70 2.4t ive had it for over 10 years and it still runs like it did all that time back. but im looking at getting a hobby touring caravan and i want something that looks the part to tow it as well as a day to day car , i only do approx 6k miles per annum so high mileage is not a problem , in the spirit of this ford forum , ive had a few fords inc and dont laugh Cortina, Granada and my favourite was an 89 "f" reg scooby in white with the rs turbo alloys

I am not intending on selling this one on any day soon mate as I still love it!

I have intentions of getting a tow bar fitted soon to, the M-Sport rear panel with the removable flap is only £70 from BMW too.

Is it a fold away one? I hate the swan neck ones.

Removable type which is totally hidden even the plug swivels out off sight. I hate all towbars unless something is connected to them! and if you buy the bmw space saver kit there is a place for it when not in use.

I'd have to check receipt for exact price and where from but I think it was about £400ish for bar and wiring kit. Done it myself, easy job.
