Does your Ford Focus do this?
Hi, I've just joined. I've been thinking of joining a Ford Forum for some time, I love Ford cars. My last one was a C Max, then I changed it last year for a Ford Focus Zetec.
I've taken it back to my Ford dealer twice, telling him that when I turn off the ignition the fan continues for about 5 minutes before turning off. I've even been
shouted in a car park that I'd left it running some minutes after locking the car.
The Ford dealer has said he cant find any problem. I was wondering If anyone else has noticed this, to me I worry that eventually the battery will be flat.
Any replies I would be grateful of, thanks.

Basicly it's normal.
I know of a number 1.6 TDCi's that do this, sometimes for as long as ten minutes. You will also find the fan can not be on when you switch the engine off, but once you've popped into the newsagents and come back out the fan is running yet the engine is cold as is outside temperature.
Ford are aware of this but no known fix is yet available. The official line is "they all do that sir" which essentially is true and as of yet i know of not one that has drained the battery, in my experience they always switch off after no more than about ten minutes.
I have explored the possibility of air conditioning system causing it, but have been unable to pinpoint a cause. The best i can come up with is it's part of the programming, but no-one seems to know why.

Me mams 1.8 Focus C-max does this. Once we'd discovered that the fan running constantly was 'cause mum had been running the air-con without noticing for about 2 weeks after she had it
, the fan still comes in very early and continues to run after the engine is knocked off.

Thanks for the replies, it has put my mind at rest. Mine is a 1.6 Zetec model.
Strangely, I've just done 100 miles and the fan didn't stay on when I turned the ignition off. Yet when I nip to the supermarket and back, a mere 4 miles, the fab stays on for 5 minutes. Odd isn't it?

Apologies for bringing up this thread again. But today I was parked in a supermarket car park and when I came back the car was dead. Wouldn't start
no lights zilch.
Rang for the RAC and he jump started it, then said it looked like something had been left on while I was shopping.
Of course it's that damn fan again causing problems, but each time I have taken it in it hasn't happened. It only does it occasionally and the garage have said they can find nothing wrong.
I am fed up now, having to wait over 3 hours for the RAC to turn up and jump start was the straw that broke the camels back.
I have always loved my Fords but this one is rubbish. It's only done 700 miles now and has caused me no end of trouble.

Is it the same car that you posted about in 2012? If so its 5? Years old and you have done 700 miles? I would suggest that the battery has simply gone flat as it sounds like you only do very short journeys.
its a pain in the but you can get the fan wireing put back to the ignition so when you turn the engine of and take the keys out the fan wireing goes dead f...ing kids desighn these things i would like to turn them c..ts of with a f...ing batt weve done this to nearly new cars with the manufactures waranty still running a good sparky can do this hide the wireing good keep stum nobody non the wiser we didnt have the time to go arround cornwall jump starting shit boxes ford didnt no what the f..k to do our sparky did the last one in about 45 mins
Hi Ray, you appear to know a lot about this issue. May I ask you another question.
The RAC engineer said he thought maybe I had left something running in the car while I went shopping which led to the battery draining.
Well, I find that hard to take in because when I turn the engine off and get out of the car everything automatically is off.
Surely nothing can be left on running can it?

If it's a new car take it back and don't accept it back until they have found a problem and it's fixed. If they insist there is nothing wrong then call the garage next time it happens so they can come out and see. No nothing can be left on, the car even goes to sleep after 15 mins or so, which cuts power to everything inside so if a light was left on, it would switch off.

Thanks Rich, that's exactly what I thought. I'm going to raise bloody hell with them on Tuesday, never had these sort of problems before, I love Fords.
Nice Avatar by the way.

I am so sorry for bringing this up yet again but you can imagine now how angry and upset I am from this.
It broke down again yesterday and I was two and a half hours again waiting for the RAC. Since I broke down on 31st December I have done a couple of hundred miles and nor used much in the way of battery power. Yet the car battery was dead again. The fan still keeps on for some 20 minutes now and again but they told me that was quite normal. The car is 4 months old and now has 870 miles on the clock.
The RAC engineer jump started the car and then I drove straight to the Ford dealer. I asked for a new battery but they said it might not be that and they want to investigate. I had to leave it there and they say it may take up to a week because they have so many cars booked in for a service.
Meanwhile they have arranged for a courtesy car I can use until they say my car is ready.
I love Ford cars, mainly because of the front heated windscreen. But this has been a nightmare from the first day.

Right guys, UPDATE:
The Ford garage has had my Ford Focus Titanium for 7 days today. They rang me to say the car was ready. I asked what they had found. Answer: "NOTHING"
I told the service manager what you guys had told me and he said that was a fault on older models and I have the 2016 model which has no faults.
All they had done apparently was to give the battery a boost for 2 hours this morning. I brought it home but am seething.
Question: On the speedometer on the right is a vertical line. Is that telling me the state of the battery? If so the needle was at the top when I picked the car up but when I got home it was mid way down. I'm just wondering what that does.
I'm pretty sure it will break down again soon as it has done every week or so.

Its not Evans Halshaw by any chance is it?
In 2012 we went in to buy a new car, 15 mins we waited and no-body came over, not even a "someone will be with you in a minute"! (we were browsing the showroom, obvious we were looking to buy) we gave it another 5 and left. Bought a car the same day from M53 Ford instead! I won't even bore you with the disaster that is the part department
Back on topic - make it clear you're unhappy! Demand to speak to the customer care manager, it's the only way to get it sorted. Be sure to mention 'citizens advice' and that you're considering rejecting the car. This should make them jump to it!

I will keep you posted with this as it is on going. You mentioned the parts
department. Someone smashed my mirror in Tesco car park.
Went to Evans Halshaw and they ordered the new mirror and booked my car
in for the day.
I took it in at 8.30am and rang them up at 4.30pm to ask if it was ready onlt to be told they had ordered the wrong damn mirror. So I had to go down there to pick up my car and re book it in the following week.
I've had a call today to book my car in next week for them to change the battery. Now how long does it take to change a battery? It's booked in for a minimum of two hours.
