S2 gearlever & remote into S1?
I have a full quickshift kit that was in my S2 and am thinking of fitting it into the S1..but I know the gearboxes are slightly different, in that for reverse in the S1 you push across, down & backwards..but in the S2 it is just across & back. I don't drive like an idiot, so the dropping down from 5th gear to 4th won't result in me going into reverse by accident (not that it would mesh anyway)..but will it fit and operate correctly. It is the whole kit inc lever, remote & 2x linkage rods so everything is there if it will swop over.

The S2 has a gate inside the box i.e the bit that controls the direction you move the stick to get the gears..
In the S1 it is in the linkage. To fit an S2 linkage to an S1 you need to have a gated box built up.
I came across this issue when I got my gearbox off Bernie..

When I bought the quickshift kit, it wouldn't fit to start with..but then we realised that as my S2 is one of the early ones, Ford must have fitted a Mk3 remote so we had to get a Mk4 remote from the scrappy for it to fit.
Not sure how it'd work the other way round tho due to the gate.
So I either: fit S2 box, get S2 gated section hybrid'd to the S1 box, or just go buy a bloody S1/Mk3 quickshift..lol.

I have an S1 set up on a gated box (S1 casing, S2 ratios, S2 gate, S1 remote and linkage modified to remove the gate).
All I did was cut the bottom off the gear lever which is flat and slides in and out of notches inside the remote.

Unless you plan on having a box built then just get a gated one made...

Yeh. Would have been good if the S2 one had fitted straight on tho. Bloody Ford changing the design!
G/box rebuilt by previous owner bout 20k miles ago..so not planning on having it rebuilt.
Cheers for all the advise: top as usual.
