Default Burton oil pump

Hi chaps my 4x4 saff engine has a burton power HP oil pump fitted and has been since the engine was built 9k ago. One of my mates told me he was advised not to fit one of burtons pumps to his cossie as they are shite so I did abit of googling and it seems there is a lot of bad reviews of these.

I have an oil pressure gauge and with my remote filter housing and oil cooler I'm getting about 20psi oil pressure on hot idle, to be exact it may be 22psi. It's pretty high when cold I'd say about 60-70psi. This is with millers cfs 10-60.

Should I remove the oil pump and fit another or is there nothing to worry about? I'm abit paranoid now chaps lol.

Also is there an alternative pump that is pretty reliable? I have the original pump so could maybe get that rebuilt.

I don't know where my pressure gauge is getting its feed from I'd imagine it would be the usual way with a yb.

I never see the need to fit a high pressure pump unless you do the supporting mods to get the oil back to the sump quick as its the drain back thats slow but if thats the readings your getting it sounds fine sound be around 2.4 bar at a cruising speed . I do remember a few years ago there was some iffy pumps doing the rounds but have not heard anything for a good while

Hi jay thanks for the reply mate, well the full engine was rebuilt mate so I think he replaced the pump to a new HP one just for peace of mind. I have a receipt somewhere I think it was bought around 2010 mate. My racetech gauge only reads in psi, iirc cruising at 40/50mph I will see about 40psi pressure and it doesn't drop on boost which I suppose is reassuring

Well thats about 2.7 bar so thats fine and you should see around 60-70 psi tapped out but remember oil p will change dependent on make of oil and grade

Just had a Burton pump fitted in mine. Shows about 75psi at tickover (reading taken when the engine was first fitted)

Nopt got a pressure gauge fitted so don't know what it does when the car's moving thought

I know mines will have slightly less pressure due to my oil cooler kit just didn't know what was normal pressure on a cosworth both warm and cold. Fingers crossed our pumps are alright mate lol

Shouldn't loose pressure because of a oil cooler kit Adam as it don't know how much oil its pumping it just pumps

Aww ok mate, I read that pressure loss of up to 8psi was common due to the extra volume the pump has to fill is that not the case?
