Default Is it wrong to make your kids clean?

well whats your thoughts on kids cleaning up???

I mean in their bedrooms they have to take responsibility and stuff etc,

But in terms of hoovering and cleaning and dusting and washing up around the house in general should they do it and be paid to do it????

As said make them work for the pocket money,

Just remember to pay them very little for a lot of hard work, that way they will be ready for the real world

Depends how old they are I suppose. One of my friends kids is 10 and has two main jobs...sort out all of the recycling (wash it and put it in the right boxes) and washing up after dinner.

She does also make her bed every morning and change the sheets herself.

She does this for pocket money each week, but she knows that her dad has no qualms taking it away from her is she misbehaves and is cheeky.

of course they should, or they will just grow up being spoilt gits, and not learn any skills for when they move out,all ours did a bit.
Only our 11 year old at home now, she does her room, and helps seting and clearing the dining table and washing up. She gets the hoover now and again too

I do think a child should have basic 'helping duties' if that makes sense.

And it is entirelyup to the parent as to whether they enlist their child to do it for reward ie: pocket money, or if they get them to do it as part of every day chores.

BUT

Not too much.

Little things like putting the dishes away, or helping hoover.... i think tidying their own room should be compulsary! As this will help them get a basic understanding of looking after heir own demain!

it is harder work to make them clean than it is to just clean up after them yourself ,but that teaches them nothing, make chores a team effort and involve them in it

Deffo should have household jobs and this can go towards pocket money and should get the money withdrawn if behaviour is bad etc ............ that means my 6 year old stepson will get fuckall then

He likes helping out even if he is just in the way and told to fuckoff and play with toys lol

his job is to tidy his room and the most important job of all ...............

take his little brothers SHITTY NAPPY out to the wheelie bin .......... sets his in his ways for a life of shoveling shite somewhere

Sounds like me (seriously )

I never had to do any cleaning up @ home, pay housekeeping or anything. Pocket money was high and never had to ask why I got it. Now, I am a messy bastard (although I do have moments of "OCD" round the house. My cars are (almost) always clean though, along with all my tools. Probably because I had to earn and pay for them that I look after them so well.

I do agree, kids need the discipline or they end up spoilt (like I was/am) and I can genuinely talk from experience, unlike most people.

I don't make me lad(12) clear his room, as I think letting him see the difference between a pig sty and the rest of the house migh encourage him to want to be tidier, rather than being compelled to do it, and it works too.
If he hasn't put his trainers away I wait until he is sat down with laptop, watching tv whatever, the make him get up to do this, then when he's got comfy again make him get up each time do anything else he forgot, so he looks now at what he should be doing, as he's sick of getting up and down!!

I'm with that. Kids SHOULD work, but they should be rewarded for it. Teaches them that THAT is the way the world works.

my son helps out around the house, and has done so from around the time he could walk (13 or 14 months old)

if he seems some rubbish on the floor he will point at it and say "rubbish" and, if asked, will take it to the dustbin and put it there

same when he's finished eating, his plates are plastic, as is his cutlery, so he goes and puts it in the kitchen (where mummy cleans it for him)

baby's poo'y nappy's also get put in the dustbin, toilet roll goes in the toilet to be flushed away, newspapers get put in the recylce bin, etc

and he knows that this toys go in the toy chest and, if it's too full, they get put on top or underneath

smae with his crayons and colouring pencils and papers and stuff, all have a place to go on that particular table

now he's got himself a laptop, it sits on the table next to daddy's and, when it's finished with, gets closed and left there nice and tidy

but generally he won't ask for any sort of reward because that's what he's supposed to do, even when he's eating chips from macdonalds, he'll make sure that he doesn't drip the dip dip onto his clothes and wipes his fingers on a napkin etc

not bad for a kid who has just turned 3

me on the other hand, i just leave stuff laying about the place kniwing that he will tidy up eventually

I agree that they should do small stuff like keeping thier room tidy, setting the table, help washing up. They have to do it at school "Tidy up time" so why not at home?
