my son helps out around the house, and has done so from around the time he could walk (13 or 14 months old)

if he seems some rubbish on the floor he will point at it and say "rubbish" and, if asked, will take it to the dustbin and put it there

same when he's finished eating, his plates are plastic, as is his cutlery, so he goes and puts it in the kitchen (where mummy cleans it for him)

baby's poo'y nappy's also get put in the dustbin, toilet roll goes in the toilet to be flushed away, newspapers get put in the recylce bin, etc

and he knows that this toys go in the toy chest and, if it's too full, they get put on top or underneath

smae with his crayons and colouring pencils and papers and stuff, all have a place to go on that particular table

now he's got himself a laptop, it sits on the table next to daddy's and, when it's finished with, gets closed and left there nice and tidy

but generally he won't ask for any sort of reward because that's what he's supposed to do, even when he's eating chips from macdonalds, he'll make sure that he doesn't drip the dip dip onto his clothes and wipes his fingers on a napkin etc

not bad for a kid who has just turned 3

me on the other hand, i just leave stuff laying about the place kniwing that he will tidy up eventually
