My missus had her gall bladder removed about 18 months ago (before I met her) and she used to be a size 10, shes now up at a size 14/16 and even though I have no problem about her supposed weight gain, she does and it seems to be getting her down, now I have read alot of stuff online about how its quite common to put weight on and he doctor has told her that she will never be that small again, but is there anything that anyone knows of that I can do with her to help her through this, I mean I have only just looked into it myself so am not hugely experienced on the matter. But if we started to eat really low fat, healthy foods and we did more exercise together do you think that would work? I mean has anyone else gone through this that could help? She even mentioned surgery the other day to remove said weight, which really is not something I like the idea of, however at the end of the day I would support her if thats what it came to, I just feel maybe we could try some things together first and see if that helps, I mean she also has trouble feeling bloated sometimes after a meal is there anything that could help with that?
Any (sensible) advice will be greatly appreciated.

exercise is the way to do it
at least you are doing it together whic is better than her sitting at home worrying
the only way you are going to lose wieght is to burn off more than you eat, and you tend to eat until your stomach is full, so if you eat heavy foods or you eat light foods, the capicity of your stomach is still going to be the same
this is why lrabbit food makes you lose wieght
for more informative stuff, try posting in the fitness room and see what you can do because there may be special way to counteract this problem rather than doing normal stuff to try and shift wieght

So portion size as well as low fat, dont tomatoes and celery have really good properties when it comes to burning off more than they actually contain when being digested?
isnt the purpose of the gall bladder to digest the fat in food.
a close friend of mine had hers removed and was told by her doctor to in future to avoid all food with high levels of saturated fat and salt
has your missus changed her diet since the operation, you can also get pills that can reduce the feeling of hunger and pills that digest fat in your stomach from a doctor on prescription

My missus had hers removed about 4 years ago and she was in similar position ie gained weight and not happy.
She went on the weight watchers points diet and got herself down to a weight she was comfortable with. All she does now is keep an eye on her weight and every now and again goes back to the points system to drop back down. She doesn't go to the meetings, just bought the books and does it from home. I've been on it and lost half a stone no problems.

green stuff tends to take more to digest than other stuff
it's why we have an apendix, it was originally there to secrete an enzyme to break down green foods like grass and the like until we stopped eating it
i can't remember what one it is, perhaps celery, but it takes more energy to digest that you gai from the digestion of the celery

Ginge It is indeed, I concentrates the bile from the liver for the really fatty stuff. But she doesnt over eat, perhaps the opposite.
Big Al She doesnt eat regularly she eats odds and sods at wierd times, cos of her jobe she doesnt stabalise it, which I guess is bad for it as well? She eats alot of fruit, but she does also eat processed foods, but your Missus found the wieght watchers plan helped?
Dojj The only thing that is worrying about that is that it takes longer for her to digest things anyway so would that be an issue or would it be ok as it is not fatty?
Cheers for the replies, mucho appreciated.

the only problel with it is that it sometimes gives you a sore throat as it's a bit prickly so it's just as easy to eat cucumbers from the fridge, they 've got lots of water in them too, or lettuces or the like

I see, cool, so now I need to look into a diet that we can eat which is balanced, but with more greens in it, I did put this post in the fitness room as well but it hasnt moved, I was hoping someone might have known a good physical diet, and also still going to have a good research into the weight watcher diet.
Thanks

Does she eat (a healthy) breakfast? Also changing your to your main meal at lunchtime instead of evening, and have a smaller meal/snack later?
Plenty of sex helps loose weight too.
e2a: my brother told me recently that running a marathon only burns off 2500 calories
thats an average daily intake.

Well when I say processed, I mean she works in a supermarket, so she will buy pre made stuff off the shop floor for lunch, I agree totally with everything you have said, but there are two issues, I need to get her to eat regular and in routine, but shes not fond of eating breakfast, so what can she thats light in the morning? She does eat alot of fruit, but she doesnt eat alot in general (food i mean not fruit). And the second is, with the mixed shifts, I can get her to just about eat at regular times if I work out a plan, but getting the main meal in the afternoon is the difficult bit, I understand why you recommend this as then she will have more of the day to burn off the excess energy, but her mixed shif she is either in work at 1:30 or that is half an hour before her start depending on her shift, so any recommendations on that?
I mean so far I have come up with making her sleep into a routine to get her food right, this is something I will do alongside her, not that I am particularly looking to lose weight, but to support her, so I was thinking:
Get up at 7:30 and have Breakfast within 1 hour (she def wont eat straight away, but as long as its within the first hour then she will be ok, as I heard this first hour helps the metabolism get up and running, e.g. any later and it doesnt get going properly through out the day).
Then Lunch at 1 (so even if she is at work this is a nice sort of time, but is shes in at 2 and it takes her 30 minutes to get in she still has time to have a nice lunch and get ready).
Then Tea at 7ish, again depends on the shift (latest she finishes is 10 and it takes 30 minutes to commute and I heard that you should never eat within the 3 hours prior to going to bed, but on an earlier shift she wil finish at half 6 so by the time she gets home then she can have food and be in bed by 11).
I mean I dont want to control her life so really she can chose when she wants to get up or go to bed, but I thought this was the best way to regulate food intake and help gain some routine, let me know what you think......

when you say there are shifts to her working, how do you mean?
early and late starting?
if so, what you need to do is get her used to getting up and then having something to eat within the first hour
so if she gets up at 5am she should eat soemthng like a bit of taost by 6, but if she's working late and she can get up at 11am, she should aim to eat that same bit of taost before 12
and then carry on throughout the day
the only problem with this i find is that your body still wants to go for a dump at the same times, so if youget used to having a poo at midday its fine if you are on lates, but if you are on earlies it's a bit incovnient having a crap at work or having to rush home
trial and error really until she finds what suits her best and then, with some variation she can see what effects her when she changes from a set routine, but you've got to find out what works for her first before there is any changing to the set up

My missus eats at all funny times of the day and not really into a routine, all she does when she's uncomfortable with her weight is use the weightwatchers book and point things out and eat xxx amount of points in a day, some days she might be short so a bar of chocolate or something to make up, or other days close to the limit so fruit and veg to pack things out. You don't have to miss out on anything, you can still eat take aways and processed stuff. Think the book cost a tenner, but anything and everything is listed in there as to how many points it is, so you work out how many points you can have a day via a table from the front of book and go from there. It is easy, I've just lost half a stone in four weeks and i only stuck to it six days a week, as the seventh i was eating takeaways and spending some time in the pub

Awesome replies people, I had a nice in depth discussion with the missus and we are going to get weighed and everything tomorrow, then we have set up for things like the packed lunch instead of pre-packed crap, we have arranged a routine around the shifts (yeah Dojj, she is either early or late shifts) and I have to look further into the weight watchers, cos this points system sounds good being able to treat yourslef every now and then.
So thanks for the repiles guys, I will update soon, Watch this space!!
