Default Wheel help

Hi,

I went to take the car for a well deserved spin today, only to be greeted by a flat passenger tyre, turns out it has a puncture, the car has Masitaly VTR5 alloys which were fitted when I brought the car, I have one standard lattice wheel which I plan to revert to once I can find a decent set that is, so I thought it would be a good time to try the wheel on to see what it would look like and also I was going to temporarily put it on the car while I went to get the other tyre sorted. To my surprise it does not fit, it has standard brakes as well.

The wheel does not sit properly on the hub, if I push the wheel in the bottom and so at an angle it sits at the bottom ok. It seems to be the top of the tyre thats to close to the suspension strut causing the problem and thus why it won't sit flush on the hub, it has Koni struts not that this makes any difference.

The tyres are both standard width as well, has anyone got any ideas or experienced this before?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Martin

Is the tyre hitting the cup on the strut?

Some pikeys not swapped the 15" lattice for the 14" version have they ?, this would foul on the brakes.
You could consider one of the many good puncture sealants, the ones that you use BEFORE you get a puncture, if it holds air long enough to drive it it will work.
I use ultraseal, if I get a puncture I simply remove screw/nail etc and then drive it does the rest, tyres last around 25-30% longer as well, due to not heating as much the sealant absorbs the heat generated.
Mine sealed a 8mm caused by a transmission bolt, a ford blue coloured one at that, not my bolt btw!!
Ultraseal is a permanent seal nothing else to do, I have done over 5,000 miles with ultraseal fixed punctures at speed also.

Driving round with tyres filled with ultraseal is NOT recommended as a permanent solution, it is only a temporary thing to get you to your local garage, and a tyre with any kind of puncture sealant shouldnt be repaired

it hasn't got any spacer rings fitted to the hub to centralise the other alloys has it, that would cause the standed alloy not to fit.

Thanks for reply's, so far as I know it dosen't have spacer rings but below is a picture if thats any help? I am not that well up on wheel mods and what it entails but to me it looks like a standard hub and it is a 15" wheel the lattice that is, the current wheels are 17".

that looks like there is a spigot ring fitted to the hub mate,
the black plastic thing around the centre bit with the big hex in it.

Oh rite so that would explain it, thanks, I have been doing a bit of research on spigot rings as I had no idea what they were, and it does tally with this as it's just a little short of it actually fully sitting on the hub, so to the next question and excuse my ignorance I guess I would have to remove that big hex or rather get someone else to do it as I don't have the tool to do that, isn't the the hub otherwise solid or has a cap where the hex is or has someone just put the "Spigot ring" behind it?

Thanks

Martin

no mate the spigot ring is just pushed on to the hub you can clearly see it on you picture, it just need prying off with a screwdriver or similar

Sorry mate can see it now, I know nothing about this sort of thing aftermarket mods etc, but I have now learnt and understood it's purpose and why it's been done, this is why I love PF, it's purpose is to act as a spacer which would tally as even with it the current wheels are very close to the brake calipers, am I right in thinking the back wheels will not have them as they don't have clearance issues with the calipers?

Thanks

Martin

its purpose is to keep the wheel centralised on the hub, if it wasn't on the wheels could be out of alignment and cause vibrations.
a lot of aftermarket wheels will fit lots of different cars with diffrent sized hub centers so the spigot rings are needed.
ford wheels have the same sized hub center on the wheel and hub so there not needed.they should be on the rear as well

Thanks mate that makes sense, so the backs would in fact have "Spigot rings" as well?

Another question, did they have locking wheel nuts as standard? On each wheel I have normal wheel nuts but one is different from the other's (It's not a locking nut), also one wheel has chrome wheel nuts again one is different, what would the standard ones be like?

Thanks,

Martin

Possibly, thats why I want to find out if they had locking nuts and what they looked like as I want the original items.
