Need help! Mond tdci cutting out-ford garage ripping me off??
Hi I have a 2002 Mondeo 2.0 tdci 130bhp ghia x 192k cut out mid December. Took to garage, advised the fuel pump in engine, wouldn't touch it, couple of 'friends' thought it was lift pump so took it all apart - turned out they thought it was fuel pump too-couldn't fix it so abandoned it-in march. Decided to have it towed to ford garage as was prepared to pay a bit more to ensure a trustworthy speedy job!!!! How wrong was I..... SIX MONTHS later and £1,200 I am due to collect my car on Tuesday but am dubious....
I sent it to them with the request for a fuel pump. They refitted the lift pump got it going, told me it wasn't the main fuel pump that it was a Delphi something or other so I bought one off Mondeo spares for £50 or so, got it sent to them, fitted, motd, and a value service done cost £870. Got car back cut out once or twice, I thought it was me just having to adjust to driving again after such a long period driving other cars!! Any way cut out and refused to restart a number of times in dangerous locations, had break down service come out. First time they couldn't find any thing and with a suitable enough wait it restarted and was fine for almost a week second call out he had to use easistart as he was at a list to find cause. But did notice it had no oil one minth after a service Got it to garage they said it needed a fuel filter as 'had never had one' even tho car has full ford service history replaced that, still broken, so replaced cam shaft precision sensor, this time bill was £230,, drove it home fine, next day cuts out on round about, got ford garage to collect it and drop off courtesy car, now they are telling me it is the engine fuel pump after all !!! Doing for cheap as they feel bad (!!!) going to cost £250 for a reconditioned one and labour. Now I am confused.... How many pumps dies one car need? I was under the impression the lift pump under the rear seats and the main one that needs recoding by ford (hence why I sent it to them) but I appear to have had one refitted and two replaced ?? Can any one advise me on what the Delphi pump does thank you!!

It wont be your high pressure pump. it will be your injectors, they will have high backleaks , when your cranking trying to build pressure the injectors are letting the fuel go straight out the backleak. The injectors don't actually turn on electronically till they see 240 bar . I would get your injectors out and tested at Delphi common rail specialists like Colchester fuel injection ltd that's who I work for . I bet your valves are worn to bits if its never had a fuel filter , they need changing religiously due to these valves are so easily contaminated, due to the size of the valve 2mm in diameter which move microns in miliseconds, this just shows how quick this valve moves . yo8u must use a ford or Delphi filter to as this has much smaller holes, 2 microns compared to other after market filters which can be 10 microns! which will let yall the dirt etc in to your injectors out and wearing the valve out.

A 130 TDCi doesn't have a lift pump! It just has the one high pressure pump. Sounds like they're properly having your pants down.
Your first mistake was taking it to a Ford dealer. In my experience they know pretty much nothing about diesel problems. Get it out of there, and get it to a Delphi specialist for a proper diagnosis.

Just called them to arrange picking up they can't get it to stay running!! So they have borrowed some injectors to fit to see if that is the problem! I am pretty sure it was a lift pump? The first garage said this and two deprecate mechanics have looked at it and confirmed it was a lift pump, it was a white plastic cylindrical thing with a float attached which I believe is what tells the computer how much fuel is in it? What does that sound like to you? Thank you very much for all your help and advice! I asked them to look at the injectors for me a while ago and it's as though they just dismiss everything I say simply because I am a girl and I can't know what I'm on about I certainly will not be paying them anything more and will be making an attempt to get them to fix it no matter what is wrong with it as their cost now! Next step is to figure out where I need to go to put in a formal complaint! bx

Now garage says it's the PCU, entire brains of the whole car that is the problem and you can't get second hand ones so it's not cheap, is this true?? Are the garage having me on!
