Hi I have a 2002 Mondeo 2.0 tdci 130bhp ghia x 192k cut out mid December. Took to garage, advised the fuel pump in engine, wouldn't touch it, couple of 'friends' thought it was lift pump so took it all apart - turned out they thought it was fuel pump too-couldn't fix it so abandoned it-in march. Decided to have it towed to ford garage as was prepared to pay a bit more to ensure a trustworthy speedy job!!!! How wrong was I..... SIX MONTHS later and £1,200 I am due to collect my car on Tuesday but am dubious....
I sent it to them with the request for a fuel pump. They refitted the lift pump got it going, told me it wasn't the main fuel pump that it was a Delphi something or other so I bought one off Mondeo spares for £50 or so, got it sent to them, fitted, motd, and a value service done cost £870. Got car back cut out once or twice, I thought it was me just having to adjust to driving again after such a long period driving other cars!! Any way cut out and refused to restart a number of times in dangerous locations, had break down service come out. First time they couldn't find any thing and with a suitable enough wait it restarted and was fine for almost a week second call out he had to use easistart as he was at a list to find cause. But did notice it had no oil one minth after a service Got it to garage they said it needed a fuel filter as 'had never had one' even tho car has full ford service history replaced that, still broken, so replaced cam shaft precision sensor, this time bill was £230,, drove it home fine, next day cuts out on round about, got ford garage to collect it and drop off courtesy car, now they are telling me it is the engine fuel pump after all !!! Doing for cheap as they feel bad (!!!) going to cost £250 for a reconditioned one and labour. Now I am confused.... How many pumps dies one car need? I was under the impression the lift pump under the rear seats and the main one that needs recoding by ford (hence why I sent it to them) but I appear to have had one refitted and two replaced ?? Can any one advise me on what the Delphi pump does thank you!!
