erm, its just a case of taking everything apart and putting it back together again, what a question! It kind of depends on whether or not you could manage that, id say it was easy but if your the kind of person who would pay halfords to fit there new stereo or a mechanic to change there brake pads then i would leave well alone. Most of the people on here would find it second nature and have it done in a weekend. Whats your reason for reshelling?

THE SUNROOF HAS STARTED TO BLISTER, BEEN TO FORD AND A FEW BODY SHOPS WHO WONT TOUCH IT, THEY RECKON THEY CAN PUT LEAD IN, BUT WITH THE HEAT IT WILL DISTORT THE ROOF.

WITH THE WINTER AND NO STORAGE OBVIOUSLY ITS GOING TO DETERIATE FURTHER.

WITH THE RESHELLING IM HAPPY DOING IT BUT THE LOOM ISNT SOMETHING IM FAMILIER WITH, ELECTRONICS ISNT MY THING. HOW DIFFICULT IS THAT JOB??

you could cut the whole roof off inc sunroof, and go all pimp my ride on it and have a electric folding canvass roof or just a new eleccy roof.

not being funny but re-shelling a car is not a weekend job if you do it properly!!

takes a lot longer, why do you think there is a restoration forum.

if you reshell a whole car over a weekend it will look a mess.

the loom issue is the big one as these looms are old, you run the risk of breaking some wires without knowing as well, an absolute bitch to sort.

my advice is go for it but take your time and dont rush and make sure you double check everything

Its not too difficult but will take time....the problems will be finding where you've gone wrong when the bugger don't start!!

If it was me the only thing that would concern me is the wiring

Do ford still make a new roof skin if so i would buy one of these and get it fitted ,if this is the only thing wrong with the car rot wise,if it is its a lot of work to reshell just for a few blisters on the roof and you will have to put the car on the i d of the shell that you get ,hope this helps

for the loom try not too cut any wires, there is no need to do this, bit of a pain in the arse having to solder them together.

if in doubt , label all connectors when you disconnect them .
if the new shell has any wiring left in it at all for the roof clock and light you can attach a couple of lenghts of wire and pull through. you can the re-attach the new wiring onto this and pull through

before putting a loom in a car i tend to lay it out on the floor and strech it out, that way i can visualise where it should go when putting it in the car

I have previously reshelled a frst in one weekend for a friend and it wasnt a mess, granted they are much newer so i had no problems with the wiring breaking. thats why i said it was easy enough to do in a weekend, thinking about it, i do have access to block and tackle which makes the whole thing easier.

I think there is a restoration forum for people to show repairs and modifications to there vehicles which take longer than a weekend, it wouldnt make a very interesting read if everyone was doing a straight reshell.

more than possible i'd say to do it, all be it its gonna involve 2 very long days of work.

what you have to remember here is the fact that he is talking about reshelling his car with a MINT shell not stripping the car and restoring the shell then bolting all the bits back into/onto it.
