Registration issues
Am probably going to open a can of worms here but i have some legitimate question regarding registering a re-shelled car.
Basically my situation is that i'm re-shelling my sapph cosworth into a 3dr shell, however the shell is a base modle 1.3, and am turning it into a 3dr cossie (or replica if you prefer)
How do i register it now, i dont want to leave it as a 1.3 "modified car" as my insurance will do its nut, and apparently the DVLA dont do Q plates anymore, however i do have a Q plate logbook and ID from another 3dr that was re-shelled i could use maybe?
Or could i use my ID off my sapph somehow as a re-shell? I have no idea how it works?
I dont want to get drawn into an argument with anyone as to weather its worth me re-shelling into this shell, lets just say i have my reasons, but any help as to how i could possibly register it to anything other than a modified 1.3 would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks for the positive comment mate, thats exactly what i'm trying to avoid here, like my post says i know nothing of the registration rules am just seeing the best way to go about the situation i got. When i bought the shell i got the Q plated reg with it but the cars wasnt registerd to it, if i cant use it thats fair enough, i didnt know, hence the question.
I heard the DVLA aint doing Q plates from replies on the RSOC, knowing nothing on the reg rules i'm taking their word for it at the moment.
Anyone with positive, helpfull comments am all ears, otherwise please dont post, cheers!

sorry dude.....I'll try and make up for it
If you are going to put any ID on the car it is probably best to buy a 3dr cossie ID and use that. If say for instance the car you have needed a repair in the floorpan/sill area that just happened to be near the numbers then that could possibly give you an opportunity to put some slam pannel tags from the genuine cossie ID on it and hey presto
As for the Q...they are still doing it according to the DVLA website. There will always be a need to register unknown origin cars to a reg.
If I was you i'd buy a gen cossie ID, repair my rusty sill and rivet the slam pannel tags onto the shell...job done
My bitch slap comment still stands though.....send the Q plate ID off to dvla as scrapped and bin it...its worth fuck all...unless the v5 and the vin numbers match those in the car at present??

as above, folk will ask you enough silly questions about your car without having to explain a q reg.i would definately buy a rusty or crashed but not v-car registered 3 door cosworth i.d.hpi the i.d before you buy it to make sure its not got a history as if you come to sell the car imagine the grief you would have explaining it was a 1.3 shell with a 3 door i.d that had been stolen recovered then crashed and the i.d bought from a breakers yard.good luck with the build and remember to put up a resto thread.

Cheers gents, hope i didnt sound too off before, i'm just putting a lot of time into this build as i am a cosworth fanatic and am on my 3rd Sapph now, just ex's tend to wipe out all your cash and leave you with a vertually zero budget,!! hence the non original shell to be honest.
If the 3dr Id is the way to go then thats what i'll do, and i really appreciate the advice given. I'm a wizz at mechanics but rubbish at all the legalities etc PMSL!
As the shell is going to end up white i suppose i'll have to find a white 3dr ID as that will be on the slam pannel vin tags? unless i put the I'd on then tell the DVLA i changed the cars colour, might not be a good idea though introducing too many changes?

Is there no way of legally registering the car as a cosworth?, after all its only the shell that i've changed? Surely thats classed as any replacement part, all be it a large one i admit? If you buy an unregistered new shell you can keep the cosworth ID, so why not with a second hand shell?

There is another way
That is to get a new floorpan section put in professionally and then have the whole car seam welded (909 style)...then get a cossie logbook and go to DVLA and they will issue a new vin to the 'new' shell and you can have your gen logbook and shell.
Cheers

If you say,has an escos which was accident damaged ,and reshelled it in to a brand new shell, and informed dvla, log book would come back as 2.0 ford escort, ask rs paul as he had a red one,and this is what had happened to it,

if you buy a moonstone blue id you could buy 2 vin tags from cosworth shop on ebay and have him insert any colour you want onto the tag.they are not original looking though but i have a set for mine as my car came without them as it was stolen recovered and they look great.its only illegal if you get caught and at the end of the day its not a stolen ringer that you have.a white 3 door id cant be too hard to come across!
