Iv'e been there mate, did it three twating times before i got it to seal .
Definetaly do it dry mate, maybe just the slightest smear where the oil pump meets the block.
As for torque settings:

5-8 nm, leave for a minute or two to settle then 5-8 nm. Thats just a half deasent nip if ya dont have a good torque wrench

mate its a little more complicated than that i think, have a look at this:

stage 1 : 6-8Nm
stage 2 : 8-11Nm
stage 3 : 8-11Nm

Hope that helps

Easiest way i found was to remove sump and old gasket, clean as much oil as you can from gasket face on the block. Put a small ammount of silicone around the groves in the oil pump and the rear main seal carrier. Offer up the gasket and hold it in position with a few bolts, press the gasket into place around the oil pump and rear main carrier. Allow the silicone to dry then remove the bolts.

The gasket should now be stuck in position, refit the sump and use the above torque settings/sequence.

Dont think this is for cvh matey. cvh uses single piece gasket.
also be sure to keep an eye on the gearbox side of the sump as it is usally the one that slips out of its groove.

I think the early CVHs used the 4 part gasket with the cork sides and the rubber half moon's around the ends.

weld the sump on Best thing you will ever do i had my engine taken out and its still leaking. Going to be taken out the 2nd time so this time i'll be using genuine gaskets. Please use genuine gaskets as i have found out the hard way.

I always clean the block and sump mating surfaces, put some sealant on the pump joins etc then smear grease along the block mating surface, that way when you put the gasket on it sticks to the block and all you have to do is put the sump on

Make sure you put the sump in place real quick because after about a minute the grease loses its stickyness and the gasket will start to come off

Ive used this method for both the one piece and four piece gaskets and never had any leaks
