So i now have 4x4 cosworth calibers in front / 2wd discs. Rear i have full 4x4 cosworth brake setup. Front brakes dont have power.. rear brakes are too powerful. I already have wilwood bias valve between rear line but it would not help. I think rst standard master cylinder cant supply enough brake fluid for large calibers in front.

How you guys are solved this.

mines fine with the normal escort master cylinder. mines new though as the old one was weeping fluid through the seals.maybe check that?

One output is splitted for front brakes, and other is splitted for rear brakes. There is bias valve (wilwood) between rear brake line. Original rear axle bias valves are no more there.
Tomorrow i will change pads, i dont expect wonder but i have to try.

Cool, now i found out that i have wrong type of caliber piston in right caliber because it would not go deep enough to fit new pads. There is different number for escort cosworth piston and sierra 4x4 cosworth pistons so i have to take some measurements i think.

Okay so it was my fault, 1 of calibers was non-original replacement caliber and its piston was different size than original caliber. So i have to swap pistons between 2 calibers and now front brakes are fine but i have to push brake pedal almost in floor until car really stops. I think master cylinder is not powerful enough to supply full set of 4x4 cosworth brakes.
Now it would be nice if someone can recommend some upgrade master cylinder + servo package.

Are you using abs or non abs escort mk5 brake cylinder?
Do it have bigger piston for front brakes

I can't really remember now tbh. In my PM i said it was a mondeo MC but i think it was probably an escort MK5 one. I trawled though ebay etc and chose the MC with the bore size closest to stock (i think it was the largest bore any how).

The RST master is also 25mm and also the RST caliper pistons are exactly the same 60mm as the Escort Cosworth caliper pistons, so you should have not seen any change actually.

Unless he's using an xr3i MC which has a smaller bore (You can't easily get the standard 25mm any more from what i hear).

I was always under the impression that cars using proper abs with a pump has slightly larger calliper pistons, but i've never measured any so that could be hearsay.


BTW, if your brakes are very spongy after a good bleed, try wedging the brake pedal down over night, i had to do this, i think it helps with trapped air in the system.

I dont know if i have original rs turbo master cylinder or not.
But one important question:
Is there any difference which output i use in my rs turbo master cylinder for front brakes?

Shouldn't be, i think originally the rst was a dual diagonal circuit so both pistons will be the same size.

In fact, i believe in this. BUT.. my rear brakes are so powerful compared to fronts i sometimes really doubt that.

The size typically reads on the side of the master cylinder as in "25" or "22".

I'm still using the 22mm cylinder as I haven't needed the increased volume and it gives a lighter pedal feel. The pedal never goes below teh first quarter.
I also have a Cossie servo package with an adapter to fit the RST just waiting installation...
