Unless he's using an xr3i MC which has a smaller bore (You can't easily get the standard 25mm any more from what i hear).
I was always under the impression that cars using proper abs with a pump has slightly larger calliper pistons, but i've never measured any so that could be hearsay.
BTW, if your brakes are very spongy after a good bleed, try wedging the brake pedal down over night, i had to do this, i think it helps with trapped air in the system.
