Default Insurance without mot or tax

Finally after 7 months of storage, while my back is playing up and i've had to push customers work back, decided it be nice to get my mondeo out for a wash and see what it actually needs to be road worthy.

After a wash, went in had some grub ect and came out and have a massive crack in my front window. ( was previously a small crack prior ) but now has spread far ( a good 6 inches )

Of course it's not mot taxed or insured but a new window is just shy of £800!

Can i get insurance without mot or tax so i can atleast claim on the insurance and not get hit so hard?

My renewal is due end of june, was for my van but getting scrapped and for my wifes car.

Any ideas before i give up and put it away and not bother...

Technically it would be insurance fraud as you already have the broken windscreen.

the fact it is not taxed and motd could draw the attention of the insurer.

I doubt very much any insurer is checking new policies to see if the car is taxed or MOT'd, since there's no legal requirement to have either in order to obtain insurance.

i don’t think that is the issue. The issue may be when a claim goes in soon after the policy starts for a windscreen…they may then look at how long the policy has been in force and how long the car had not been taxed and motd for etc….if there is no tax and mot from point of policy starting to claim then they may wonder how the windscreen broke etc.

unlikely but it could happen and although we all love to hate insurance companies it is fraud and is immoral early when you think about it. It is an unpopular opinion but ultimately the £800 windscreen that he doesn’t want to pay for is being added to everyone’s insurance policies (yes I know the ins co may pay less)

And you never know, someone from the insurance company could see or be told about this very forum posting?

These firms do check social media platforms incase of fraud.

I'd find a firm, one man band outfit that does glass replacement. Many years ago I needed one and the guy went to a scrap yard to remove and refit for me.

Hi Mark that suggestion is a good shout, many of the car recycling places would probably have good windows /windscreens to fit his car at a lot less cost than a new one. I cannot see how an Insurance company would pay for a new one when the car has been off the road for a fair while and then as soon as the new insurance is paid for ,a claim is put in for a new windscreen. I guess good luck to him if he can do it and no questions are asked.

I have found that asking for a trade discount from suppliers can also get a big discount and they normally recommend a fitter.
